California governor Jerry Brown announced his state would be sending “its own satellite into orbit to track and monitor the formation of pollutants that cause climate change.” Co-developed by an imaging firm founded by former NASA scientists, the satellite is expected to launch in two years to help pinpoint the sources of climate pollutants and mitigate warming.

“With science still under attack and the climate threat growing, we’re launching our own damn satellite,” Brown said in prepared remarks. “This groundbreaking initiative will help governments, businesses and landowners pinpoint — and stop — destructive emissions with unprecedented precision, on a scale that’s never been done before.”

Is it going to track its own emissions during launch?

“With science still under attack..."

Any idiot that argues that science is settled doesn't understand true science. Science isn't under attack, dogma is under attack. You must be coming from a pretty weak argument if your best argument is whining about being under attack.

To stop global warming we need to stop polluting.
To stop polluting we need to stop using things... we won't though.
So, to get people to stop using things we need to... eliminate the problem.
Apparently that is frowned upon, so, mandatory vasectomies oughta slow things down.

To be fair NASA is the one (federal) government agency that still has global warming on its web site. I guess this is a hedge for California though.

This is a perfect thing to work on for a state which has some of the worst poverty issues in the country and people pooping in the streets.
People in this state don't consider the rise in poverty/homelessness to be an issue though; otherwise we would you know, stop voting for the people who allow these issues to continue unabated. The state cares more about limiting your 2nd amendment rights and illegal aliens, than the homeless citizens.

After a few wildfires, global warming seems to be on everyone's minds now, but the last few years of being in a drought was not an issue what so ever and hardly warranted any action.

Proud new Californian, go Brown. Keep us relevant on the world stage while we weather these backwards anti-science times.

Hopefully the satellite will help California locate and cut down all the dead trees and overgrown brush that are now burning and fouling the air in the other states. Might help clear the air if California would worry about crap they should fix now rather then stuff that might have an adverse impact decades from now.

Sounds pretty sexist. Why not mandatory hysterectomies?
Because one man can get multiple women pregnant at a time.
Women can only be impregnated by one guy at a time.
Which is why sterilizing men does nothing to limit population growth.
Here, simple example:

Group 1: 100 males, none sterilized + 100 women, none sterilized
Possible babies born per year: about 100.

Group 2: 100 males, with 99 sterilized + 100 women, none sterilized
Possible babies born per year: about 100.

Group 3: 100 males, none sterilized + 100 women, with 99 sterilized
Possible babies born per year: about 1.

So clearly, sterilizing men does not limit population growth--
unless extinction of the human race is your goal, and you sterilize all of them.

This is pretty simple birds-and-bees stuff. But haters gotta hate, I guess.

Air causes cancer in California so this isn’t surprising.

Handle checks out.

Hey, if you don't make it in California, you can always move to Austin. I think people crap in the streets there too.

"satellite into orbit to track and monitor the formation of pollutants that cause climate change"

Jerry just wants a satellite specifically designed to follow him around!

Sounds like the typical "you have to spend money to make money" philosophy that drives California, all the while they kick the can down the road since regulation becomes counterproductive at a certain point. Not that it matters - I'm sure a Chinese "spy" in some administration or another will steal and/or manipulate the data and then find a way to blame plastic cutlery for the economic shortfall.

I feel so bad for people who live there.

Why don't they ban propane/gas/diesel vehicles? That would help quite a bit? Just use all electric cars and have more wind/soar power?
Yeah, that's right I said it, because I don't live there. :)

It's okay - Trump is going to bail California out. The House just passed a bill to give CA billions of dollars to build new reservoirs:
https://www.breitbart.com/big-gover...ifornias-first-new-water-storage-in-40-years/

Even though the state warned 12 years ago that they needed use their money to repair the Oroville dam, regulators and Jerry Brown ignored it. What happened last year? The Oroville dam bursts. What does Jerry Brown do? Ask for more money.

DemocRAT motto: Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Would you trust the data from a Jerry Brown satellite?
Once it's up there, who can tell whether it's been programmed to lie?

No, to stop global warming we need to get China to stop polluting.
Good luck with that.

Thing is "Global Warming" is not happening. The Earth is in a trend of cooling right now and the spazzes that are crying about "climate change" have changed their tune and don't tend to say "global warming" anymore.

Do you know what dictates the temperature of Earth? It is the Sun. Maybe if we install a thermostat on the Sun, we can then control the temperature of the Earth.

For urban areas that they want to cool down, one simple.. or maybe not so simple thing as it would cost a whole lot of money is:
1. Eliminate blacktop which soaks up heat and radiates it for hours after it is dark out and go to only cement
2. Eliminate tar based roofing (shingles) and go to something that doesn't soak up the heat and radiate down into the house even after the sun has gone down.

We went from a shingle roof to a light colored metal roof about a year ago and the temperature in our house dropped significantly during the summer. Electric bill is about $50 or so less per month.

But we can't use logic to reduce electricity usage and of course cement costs more up front than blacktop.. but whatever. People just want to keep being dumb so that is the way it is going to be for the foreseeable future.

The earth is in a trend of cooling? We broke several records for high's this year. I wish it was cooling!
