Life can be tough. Even if you're worth $20 billion, apparently you still can't afford a decent sofa, luckily, the internet is here to help. A few days ago Elon Musk gave us a rare look inside the Model 3 factory in an interview with CBS This Morning. During the interview, Musk showed where he had been sleeping on a couch in the plant while pulling all nighters to fix the model 3's production problems, noting that the last time he slept on the floor because the couch was too narrow, and that it was "not a good couch."

Fortunately, good samaritan Ben Sullins started a GoFundMe to help the 54th richest man in America get a new couch. As of writing the campaign has raised nearly $4000, not including the $1,200 pledged by the Tesla club Sweden. No telling how high it will go, but $5,200 should be able to get Elon a fine davenport to rest his tres comas while he overlooks part of his empire.

Apparently I am not correctly leveraging the power of the gofundme.

I apparently misunderstood what gofundme was for.

who wants to start a gofundme for me? I think 1. my name is fitting, and 2. I got 2.5lbs of ground beef, 1lb of Italian sausage, and some rice...... not much else, honestly, uh...... I want pizza hut 1 medium pizza, pepperoni, with their garlic butter bread, and a 2 liter of sierra mist.... I think 15,000 will cover it...ya?

also if you could setup a second gofundme to absorb the taxes for that kinda money, that'd be superb...

    ill be waiting

oh, i have seen it also. Years ago was part of an online community where a user was always posting about how she needed money for stupid things like that. One day was that she wanted to order pizza like your joke so started one for that. Did another as she wanted to take her kids out to see some new movie so wanted enough for tickets for her, her husband and two kids plus snacks. Did another to buy some new video game that came out. Think about every other day it was new gofundme for something. Told her once that she was abusing the system. Normally she only got a few dollars after hours of trying to guilt trip everyone.

I really dont understand why people would fund this, if he wants a new damn sofa he can afford to get himself one. So many better uses of money out there then this.

  12. Well, could you folks do a GoFundMe for me to get some softer toilet paper?

He did leave his car in a rocket like a dumb ass. It'll be a while before they make another Roadster for Musk.

...........Gayle king did the interview and as soon as she found out where he slept, she tested the comfort of the couch by sitting on it and bouncing as you would test a bed.

Question: What newscaster goes both ways as long as you have billions in the bank............allegedly ;)

I mean where I live, I'm paying taxes for a second sports stadium/arena for billionaire owners (literally, in the latest racket) and the millionaire players. Celebrities get thousands of dollars of free shit at any one of the infinite awards ceremonies they have each year, free cars, etc - which everyone else essentially pays for. May as well buy this poor guy a couch.

Sadly a billionaire will collect more money for a couch that he doesn't need money for than a poor person for the cancer medication he can't afford and needs.

I will never, ever donate to a GoFundMe. It either goes to people who don't need it or people asking the crowd to fund every little life event.

For what its worth, I've seen many of them for legitimate medical expenses. In fact, that's a primary use I find. Lets not forget that medical issues are a chief cause of bankruptcy or financial strife in this country. I've seen quite a few GoFundMe to ask for help paying for someone's operation or similarly expensive treatment.

The costs of health insurance itself can be obscene, especially if you don't work for a big company. Worse, for all you pay - even for a high end plan - still has insane co-pays (by flat fee or percentage) and out of pocket maximums that have been increasing especially in the last year. Lower level plans are expensive and you get far less! I know some will claim that MedicAid is there for those who don't have much money, but it is the health care equivalent of eating every meal from the 7-11 or McDonalds in that you'll have the worst experience (depending on state), some practitioners don't accept it, MedicAid (which in most cases is a MedicAid HMO which is far, far worse than MedicAid by itself) will delay, deny, and generally do everything they can to discourage you from actually seeking benefits; the degree of obscenity varies depending on the state.

Lets not forget that insurance companies often will try to deny claims constantly, even with physician intervention and request for approval, for patients with high end plans. For instance, since Q4 last year I've been fighting for coverage on two of my medications - which I get in generic form, mind you - that used to be covered, but they decided to stop. . Tons of letters, appeals etc... and I was able to get one of them figured out a month or two ago, but I'm still working on the other one! One of them would cost around $300 /month, an the other $2500/month (which REALLY should not cost anywhere near this amount). So having to pick up the tab during the time insurance is dallying around is an insane added expense. I haven't even started on how many of the best for your health treatments are not covered by insurance. Some of the best doctors in certain sub specialties don't accept insurance, so you're paying out of pocket there entirely. Same with anything deemed "experimental" or even "off-label" by the insurance company, unless under very specific circumstances. Compounded prescriptions are typically paid out of pocket thanks to insurance denials (on really spurious justification that something similar is available off the shelf, damn the patient's individual need. I can't tell you how many patients I tried to help get bioidentical hormones covered, when their insurance would push synthetics that patients do not respond nearly as well regarding ). , not to mention anything deemed a "supplement" (even those that are only available from licensed physicians. Hell, I have one prescription-only medication that is being denied because there exists an inferior, OTC supplement version thereof with not just a lesser dose but different ingredients.).

These are just a few examples of the nonsense that can befall even those with (expensive) insurance and greater ability to pay out of pocket than most, from my personal experience; I know patients who have been through far worse and many physicians and practitioners have similar stories themselves and from their patients. Universal, single payer public funding for healthcare can't come soon enough to dispense with the current, broken patchwork system.

Sure, there are people who just want a MacBook Pro because they like to do art or whatnot, but there are some uses that I've seen as quite viable, notably healthcare.

After reading the GoFundMe page, it doesn't sound that bad. Just sounds like some fans of Elon who want to fix his dire couch situation. If Elon doesn't respond or doesn't want the couch they said they will donate to charity. Seems reasonable.
