Burn Problems - Unable to Sustain Buffer

For as long as I can remember I've had two optical burners which have been able to burn at the same time and maintain a full buffer at full burn speed. The drives are connected via SATA.

Just lately though it seems that the hard drive cant provide the data to the drives quick enough in order to maintain a sustained burn. I've tried a clean install etc and even tried swapping one of the burners out to see if its a dying drive but nothings changed.

Can anyone think why it would now be struggling to burn with two drives at once even when theres no other disk activity?

hard drive going bad would be my guess. I've had a few that slow way down right before they die. If you know the manufacturer and model the drive you can usually get diagnostic tools from their website to tell you if this is the case.

Could be. I use a 2.5" 320gb for temporary storage and a SSD for my main OS and programs. The 2.5" could be on its way out but doesnt show any other signs of trouble.
