I need to build a few custom Untangle UTM boxes for a few clients coming up in the next few months and I am looking for some recommendations, general thoughts, your experience, etc on the hardware and enclosure. Most of the places I have found that sell the rack mount enclosures I am not sure of their reputation and a lot of them are mini-ITX VIA based solutions, not sure if that will be enough power for me.
The requirements are the boxes have to be rack-mountable in a standard network rack using just the ears, no 4-post and no rail support. I would like either 1U or 2U and it needs to look like an appliance, not a server.
One of these will be going into an off-campus apartment complex that is housing nothing but college kids, about 200, that do nothing but download pr0n and movies on the bittorrent so I am thinking dual-core 2GHz+ CPU, 1-2GB RAM and an 80GB SATA drive. Will either get a mobo with dual-LAN ports or just a second PCI NIC.
So, do you guys have any particular cases that you recommend or have experience with? Any retailers that specialize in these types of appliances that I just missed? I apparently do not have the ability to use google like I used to, most of my results turn up junk or just places in Europe . . .
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
