Hello mac heads.

Quick question. An easy one too I hope.

What is the easiest way to browse the local network on a Mac? Can it be done through Safari?

For example, in IE on the PC I can go to file:// or just use \\ to browse to an IP address or computer name on the network.

I have 2 Macs on an all PC network and I am trying to figure out how to create local intranet links to fileshares so they can get to them easier.

Any hints for me?

Thanks

At the top menu bar

Go > Connect to Server

Type: smb://ip.adress.goes.here, Then press connect, Then you'll have to input the login information such as account/username.

This will mount the server on the desktop, and allow you to browse the network just like a folder in finder.

Since this is going to be a link on a webpage can I just create a link like:

smb://192.168.0.1/files

and they can click on it and it will ask for a login?

Or is the only way to mount the server first?
