Broadband In U.S. Still Slower, More Expensive Than Everywhere Else

whoah! damn nice man I am paying $78 for 10 Mbps for 1 month here in UAE!

Can't beat that! LOL

no limit also.
sweden are pretty good with broadband, most have fiber already and we are seeing 1gb solutions already been offered here and there. But 1gb isnt possible atm where I live.
I assume it wont be to long before that will happen. still thats way more expensive as a solution if one asks me. (triple the cost atm)
I am lucky as what I pay is decent.
other areas the price might be more depending on where one live obviously.

I pay the equivalent of $19.15 for 100/50 here in Bulgaria. Oddly ping is in the lower 30s to the UK, which is pretty far away, but twice as high to neighboring countries. Looks like no one is even selling 1 Gbps to residents anymore.

I envy Flopper for he can live deep in the Swedish woods and still get fiber for lan like multiplayer quake experience.

In China I paid 16usd a month for 30Mbs unlimited.

Are you also taking into account the cost of the VPN that is basically required in order to visit any relevant websites from within China? Personally I'd rather use dial-up than be stuck behind the great firewall of china.

Firewall of China sucks for porn, Firewall of USA sucks for MP3s.

I have a friend (actually "friends" there are at least 5 in this example) in Australia that pay $150 a month for a 20Mbps connection (1mbps upload). I'm sure some place here charges that but its extremely uncommon these days.

I'm going to call bullshit on some conclusions of this report. Australia only bested by New Zealand (where the support is so bad sometimes you wait months before a tech will even arrive at your home) are actually pretty fucking awful. I think however the US wins the "worst of" in terms of quality of connection. SO MANY people here have issues just staying online for more than a few hours at a time.

ya'll guys got;

1st World Problems! For real!

in the Philippines, it has the worst shittiest corrupted internet infrastructure thanks to monopoly of telecommunications (Imagine only two rival telcos that are rumored to be having a merger in future!)

Can't even make one clean mobile phone or skype call from UAE to the Philippines, can't even get worse than that!

Sorry for being OT

So rejoice 1st World Peoples!

lol yeah, I still have regular "cannot connect to primary DNS servers" and their "up to" speeds only works at midnight.

100/100 for $36 here. No data caps. My ISP refuses to store user activity on their servers for the government. And if you get hospitalized it's gonna set you back $13 a day. Max.

What country?

Although I believe the US is far from having the worst healthcare in the developed world.
It was sort of misquoted; what we have, is the best healthcare that money can buy, if you have the money. If you don't have money, you can still get healthcare, but it's more difficult, there's no guideline to how to do it, you have to figure it all out on your own. I'm an 'insider'; I know the system, and know how to get good, free healthcare in the U.S.A.. And one of the things that guarantee that I can do this, is that not everyone knows how to do it, or my sources would be overwhelmed tomorrow and be gone within weeks. What's even more amazing, is the resistance I get trying to tell people how to do this; about 90% of the time, the responses I get are along the lines of, 'I shouldn't have to do all this just to get what I deserve'. They believe that it should all be free. When I ask them if they'd be willing to work for me 4 out of 5 days a week for free, they look at me like I'm nuts. Then I tell them that's exactly what they're asking me to do. They roll their eyes, shake their heads, and leave. And show up in my e.r. again a week later, complaining again. People in general are: 1. Stupid, and 2. Greedy.

Now back to your usual Slo-band programming.

You want to go ahead and give me an example of how anything related to MP3s is blocked in the USA? I haven't been limited from downloading anything, and the last time I bought music was in the 20th century.

Tongue in cheek, referring to different censorship priorities. Just saying the Chinese citizens may not be aware of censorship in their own borders, and sometimes play part in it for sake of country and all that jazz, likewise the same goes for us here, just different censorship targets/goals involved.
