Anyone tried something like this for combination of 2x24's and 1 30?
you're going to pay through teh nose for that. I tried getting quotes for 2x20, 1x30. Nothing in the online catalogs was suitable and when I finally got a quote from one of the vendors via email it was IIRC in the $500-600 range.

Do your monitors rotate into portrait? I was considering this arm, but if it is difficult to adjust between portrait and landscape, maybe I should reconsider.

From what ive seen discussed about the Chief setup, its just a knob around back you rotate to loosen and then you can flip them into portrait.

It is not difficult at all. One knob on the monitor mount locks the rotation/pan, another locks the side to side slide along the rail.

Why are people complaining about how hard it is to line up then? I was worried about having to fiddle with it for half an hour when I rotate it to get them to line up perfectly again.

Hm, when you say it just fits your 27" monitors, can you be more specific? I'm thinking of buying 3 27" Asus or Sceptre monitors, but the width on those is 25.5" and 26.24" respectively, so they might not fit?

e: Never mind, questions has been answered (answer is no).

which of these would work with 3 24's in portrait? can it swivel to portrait from horizontal without removing the monitor from the stand? you just loosen (but not enough for it to come off) then turn it in portrait then retighten?

I agree, they should be at eye level.

What size pole did you get for your setup?

Im thinking of doing this with my three 26inch Asus monitors.

mine are eye level sitting on my desk but thats also because i leave my chair on the lowest level and i have a tall desk..

but that setup looks clean.. but it would be way to high up for me..

I'm having a weird problem with the KTP 320. Using 3 Asus 25.5" monitors, and the side monitors sit at a quarter-inch lower than the center monitor.

Doesn't make sense that it would be sagging, but that's the only thing I can think of...going to take one off, recenter the other two, and see if there's still a discrepancy.

If the discrepancy is gone, it is sagging at the ends for some reason. :(

Disassembled and reassembled, problem solved. :)

Looks awesome. Now if only Nvidia would release their damned drivers...

I ordered the KTA325 with a 28" pole and the free standing base from nextwarehouse last night. Cost me $260 vs well over $300 at ergodirect. Can't wait!

Anyone else turned off by the borders? I so want this config and can afford it at the moment, but the borders on the LCD screens would annoy me. Why not clear borders or really thin ones :(. Kick ass setup by the way

Bezels do suck, but they aren't terribly thick on my monitors. There are definitely monitors I would never use in a multimonitor setup because of their bezels though...

Bump for a nice piece of kit. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on one of these stands?
Because of my desk setup, I'd also like to install the stand with the base facing the opposite direction from normal. will that work ok? how heavy is that base?
Just to be absolutely sure, we're talking about the same stand - the model number I've been searching under is chief ktp320b and it will accommadate up to 3x27" monitors right.

PS Does the stand come with 3 sets of vesa 100 mounting screws for the monitors or do you have to purchase those separately?

Can't seem to find a package deal for this thing anywhere. Are these the parts I need to order:

Update KTA1002BCHIEF MANUFACT...Chief Free Stand Base Accessory
Update KTA1028BCHIEF MANUFACT...Chief KTA1028B 28" Pole
Update KTA325BCHIEF MANUFACT...EXTENDED TRIPLE ARRAY-POLE MOUNT ACCY BLK

Thenerds seems to offer these for about $250 shipped but I want to make sure I'm ordering the right parts. Good deal?

  • I don't think that reversing the orientation of the base is a good idea. With the amount of weight you're putting on the arm, it'll likely fall forward. The base is pretty heavy, but it is NOT a counter weight.
  • Yes, it comes with vesa 75 and 100 parts.
  • I bought my kit from Nextwarehouse for $260 shipped.

The bezels don't really bother me. The only time they do is like when a movie goes through them. Otherwise, my brain just filters it out.

Just ordered the stand from TheNerds.net. They were doing a flat shipping of $9.99 this weekend. Plus with the $10 off discount coupon (TWITTER10) I basically got shipping for free!

$226.96 for all 3 parts: KTA325B, KTA1028B, KTA1002B. I hope this stand works out well for me. I also have a 3rd NEC EA231wmi otw to finally do a Surround setup. :D

One of the things I didn't like about the stand was If I lined them up perfect. The two side monitors looked like the ends were pointing down. the only way I could elevate that was to put two rubber pads on the bottom front of the base. I didn't like the way that looked either. so I put the bend right in the pole about 5" up . Worked like a charm.

Well I sure hope I don't have to mod my stand that way!

Anywhos I just got my 3rd NEC ea231wmi in. I fired up Deadpixelbuddy and no dead pixels, so I am quite pleased! Now just have to wait for the rest of the stand parts to come in. The base arrived today at the same time as the monitor. Can't wait to crank up Surround!

It takes a lot of time to adjust, patience is the key. There is some play in the vesa mount . Make sure the center mount is set so it sits at it's lowest possible position. and make sure the to sides are pushed up to it's highest possible position. Then it's just a matter of adjusting. it just take a lot of fiddling with to get it . Also it helps to have the center monitor adjusted as vertical as you can get it .

Ok so everything is finally fixed up and it looks pretty sweet! Heck of a lot of work though. That was definitely a two man job. Don't try this by yourself!

Step 1. Base plate attached.
chiefmountbaseplate.jpg

This was the easiest part of the project.

Step 2. Attach the central monitor.
chiefmountsingle.jpg

Starting to see this thing shaping up. But it would require further adjustments.

Step 3. Attach heavy duty double clamps beneath so that the arm doesn't slip down!
surroundstandclamps.jpg

Acquired after a quick trip to the nearby auto parts store.

Step 4. Attach and adjust remanining monitors.
TripleNEC_NVSurround.jpg

And now we're ready to enjoy NV Surround! Phew! That was a lot of work but it was worth it!

NICE setups, gents. I want a 3x27" setup so bad, but I don't want to give up my IPS.

Looking really good, though!

Can anyone who's setup one of these mounts tell me if there's too much space between the bracket and the pole. It feels like I will break the wrench if I try to tighten these 2 screws anymore, but it does look like other owners are able to get it much more flush.

If you did get it flush, how did you do it?

Mine isn't flush. I wouldn't tighten it any further that what it takes to hold it good or you risk breaking it

Thank you; I had visions of the monitors crashing down since it wasn't flush but will leave well enough alone.

I went to the hardware store and got extra washers. I found that adding two more washers to that area per side provided the most snug/flush mounting. I think most people don't add clamps as well like I did. But since they were only $5 and a trip to the store it was worth it to me for peace of mind of no slippage downwards of the monitor arm!

Looking at 3 27" Dell U2711 Monitors however they are 25.46" Wide, does anyone know if this can be modified a little bit to accommodate the 0.92" overage from the recommended 50" Max Width for the center and side monitor?

Thanks.

It this arm fully compatible with mixed size monitors setup (such as Dell 2007FP + Dell 2709W + Dell 2007FP)?
I believe that the height cannot be adjusted differently by monitor.

wow that is nice, need me 3 x 24" IPS dell's now

I was running dual monitors before. So I only needed to purchase a 3rd monitor and the Chief stand/arm to complete the triple setup. So work on getting the monitors first. And jump for the stand when you get the 3rd one in. :)

No, you can't do it. I'm running 3 x 25.5" and there is barely enough room to maneuver the bezels into position. I suppose you could remove the 0.5" brackets that prevent your monitors from crashing into oblivion, but that would be mentally retarded.

3 x 27" has no chance. Maybe a thin 27" flanked by two 24" would work.

Went back and read through all 6 pages again of this post and saw someone list thenerds.net website and looks to be the cheapest for this setup.

Just got the mount with a free stand base and 28" pole which I'll probably cut to 21" or so and with shipping it came to $236.96. A far cry cheaper then Ergotron as you need an extension for monitors larger then 23" which alone is around $150.

Hope this helps anyone else looking to get this. :D
