Investigators have released videos, evidence, and transcripts related to a case from last year in which Pedro Ruiz III, in an attempt to achieve YouTube fame, had girlfriend Monalisa Perez fire a Desert Eagle at his chest. He assumed that the book he was holding would shield the bullet, but it went straight through and killed him. Ms. Perez pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in December. Thanks cageymaru.

He said he wanted to be “crazier” than famous stunt stars like the men behind MTV’s hit series, “Jackass.” “I may fail, but if I fail I want to die trying,” Ruiz said. “We’re all going to die anyways. It’s just a matter of how and when.” The couple bantered back and forth lightly in the videos, laughing and directing each other for what was supposed to be the first video on Ruiz’s YouTube channel.

But he did so some reseach. Authorities recovered a book similar in size to the one used at the time of death that had been shot and recovered a .50 cal projectile that was stopped about halfway through the book. Obviously something was different between the two books...

I chalk it up to death by dumbass. Pedro is an idiot as is everybody involved in that stupid idea for a stunt. If my kids ever try shit like that I'm kicking their ass's. Incredibly stupid. I'd punch Pedro's parents for breeding, and Pedro's girlfriends parents for raising a dumbass as well.

When you're looking to get out of the trailer park and YouTube is your ticket out of there, the more risky the better is it. More views and you get a lot more cash.

IIRC, Physics was the difference. The first book was set on a stand and shot, so a lot of the energy from the projectile was transferred into moving the book (the book flew backwards when it was shot). When he held the book, it did not move.

im sorry but no.
lets not make this into a misguided effort to vilify society and praise people whom without the current societal structure would have died in some other equally stupid way if he lived say 200 years ago which at that time would probably be him sitting around with a bunch of people from whatever town/village he would have been in and telling them to watch as he went and poked a bear/alligator/lion with a short stick.
