Thank you. Hopefully this remains free forever. Borderlands 2 is one awesome game I've played on PC.

confusing. Sure they say it’s a free unlock on us but in the video for borderlands it says “play for free oct 27-30" then at the end it shows “try multiplayer free oct 27-30".

Looks like it might just be one of their "free play weekend" dealios... So free from the 27th through 30th.

Confirmed by Major Nelson on reddit that its a free play weekend deal only. However, the package is on sale for $24 during the promo.
 
Exactly as Slim says. It wasn't exactly clear until reading Major Nelson's blog.
