Ok, so I have a tricky situation and I hope someone can help me out here.
I have a thin and light laptop that will only boot to the hard drive, there are zero external boot options available.
No cd/dvd, floppy, usb or network boot available.
I have access to the hard drive, and a usb adapter so I can plug it into my main rig and write whatever I need to on it.
What I'm trying to do is to make the disk bootable so I can install XP from a folder on the drive. I have done this before for a libretto to install win2k using the sys command from a 9x box to make it boot to a dos prompt.
Problem is, I do not have a 9x box anymore, I have XP and Vista dual boot on my main system and Win2k Pro on my file server, and I've been unsuccessful so far in trying to figure out how to do this. I've tried this for a few days and I'm about to give up.
I was able to get Win2kPro on it by basically using an image of my libretto drive and reinstalling, but so many of the devices aren't recognized (including any network adapters) that I want to go for xp.
Ideas? Answers? Let me know, thanks!
