blue screen "registry error" help

A friend of mine has a dell 2300. Everytime you start the computer it gets to the windows xp loading page and I get the blue screen saying registry error. I tried re-installing xp but when it loads all the files and asks me if i want to repair windows or install new copy I get the same blue screen. I reset cmos with no luck. I can't think of anything else to do since I can't even reformat the hdd. Any ideas? :(
 
Good 'ol Dell....try another XP disk not from Dell and see if you can load it ok. Sounds like a corrupt XP disk.
 
We need additional information.

Get the hardware specs and OS version. Also get the details of the blue screen.
 
used a different xp disc and it reformatted fine. thx computer dude.
