Blue-Ray and HD-DVD..

From the reviews I have read... Blue-Ray seems favored. Less buggy systems, equal to slightly better picture quality, and 20-50 GB Recordable discs....

Now that things are getting closer....wich do you prefer and why? Also, if I where to build my system again come november....what would I need to make either one work? Are the rumors of specialized monitors and motherboards with security measures in place true?

I favor HDDVD, but I do really, really want Blu-Ray as media back-up for my PC.

Blu-ray all the way baby....hddvd can go jump off a cliff. Of course Sony's history of format wars has always been a losing one. Usually the Sony format ends up being for television, audio and film pros.

I think it was Samsung who is working on a hybrid drive for computers. When the perfect that, im sure they will make a player for televisions. That be the one I will pick up. The hybrid drives are going to be the ones that will win. Consumers dont want to choose over one format for one movie and then the other format for another movie. Hybrid drives for the win!!!

Round one has already been won by HD-DVD. The player is cheaper, and produces a better image quality.

Unfortunately that doesn't show today's realities when it comes to the consumer marketplace. Toshiba's HD-A1 is cheaper and delivers better PQ than the Samsung BD player. The XBOX 360 already has a large install base and will be getting an HD-DVD drive.

Yes, Blu Ray is better technology, and if it was sitting today where HD-DVD is, it would probably win. As it stands, it has an uphill battle to face.
