I remember back i the early 90's building a server running linux 0.99. Initially had 16MB (not a typo). Started needing more RAM. Best deal I could get for 16MB more? $300 or so.

You had to buy the chips separately, which were in DIP packages. Fun, fun, fun.

It always amazes me how far we've come--and yet nothing I use regularly seems any faster than it was on win3.1, lol. Word processing is still word processing and pdfs are still pdfs. Only difference is the order of magnitude of more ram--16GB vs 16MB.
