Bioshock: Infinite - Blurred Signs and Textures?

I have been fiddling with my settings in Bioshock Infinite. Most of the things are set to ultra (aside from post processing and shadows).

Does anyone know why the signs in the game appear blurry and out of focus, but then sharpen up as I approach them? I don't think this was happening when I first installed the game.

Looks like the sort of LOD you get with consoles' poor draw distance. I don't have B:I, but maybe there's a config tweak for LOD/draw distance.

Hmm. Odd.

Perhaps driver level anisotropic filtering?

Could be. Any suggestions on what I can tweak or do to try and improve it? Odd thing is, I didn't notice these things when I started playing yesterday. But then today I was messing with the graphics settings to optimize FPS and this happened.

Could it be an AMD driver issue? I'm using the latest version - 13.4

I've seen funky things happen with objects that utilize an alpha layer (i.e. transparency) when enabling Morphological AA in the CCC. Toggle this setting off if you're using it.

I haven't touched any of the settings in CCC. Morphological AA is turned off. The only changes to the video card are being made through MSI Afterburner.

Fixed it. Had to turn texture quality down from Ultra to High. Very saddened by this. :(

Well a camera focuses on whatever you want to focus on and it blurs everything around it. The do the same thing in Animation to make it realistic.

I was going to say . . .

Yup, I had to do the same thing. Weird.

Out of curiosity, what video card are you using? Glad I'm not the only one. I tried every possible combination of the settings and only when I bumped texture quality down from "Ultra" to "High" did I notice an improvement in these blurry texts.

Honestly, my eye probably can't even tell the difference between "High" and "Ultra" textures so I will just go on enjoying this amazing game.

This isn't depth of field. It's a problem with the game engine not loading textures properly.

UE3 games often have that issue, Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm is plagued with it.

Bioshock Infinite did not have that issue for me though. I am running a GTX670 PE with the latest drivers.

Darn it - launched the game today and it started doing it again, even on "High" texture quality. I wonder if it's just time for me to get a new video card, or if something happened with the game and it needs to be reinstalled.

yup, looks like the texture streaming shitting itself.

have you fucked with anything in the .ini's?

I have not touched any of the .ini's. Lowering the texture quality to "High" resolved this for me, so maybe my 6950 isn't powerful enough to handle everything on "Ultra"

Out of curiosity, what are your "texture quality" and "texture filtering" settings?

Here's a good guide
http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/BioShock_Infinite

Anything regarding poolsize maybe wrong in the guide though, so do follow these to get it closer to the correct preset.

512MB VRAM = 400
1GB VRAM = 600
2GB VRAM = 800
3GB VRAM = 1000
4GB VRAM = 1200

This did the trick!! Thank you so much! Much appreciated. :)

I also loaded the Catalyst 13.5 Beta 2 drivers as there was some optimization for Bioshock noted in the release notes.

I had the same issue, so I had to figure out how to get it to work with 2 separate guides. I'm glad it worked for you, too! :D
