If you work for the government, we wish to express our deepest sympathies to you for your loss. :(

Federal employees shouldn't watch hours upon hours of porn at work, according to a new bill from Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.). The Eliminating Pornography from Agencies Act would try to stop federal employees from accessing, watching, or sharing pornography on government- issued computers and devices.

Wonder if this would violate any Constitutionality issues, 1st amendment?

Need to make it a general ban on any non-work related computers to bypass it... which IMO that should be the case anyways. "Oh you were checking out your fantasy football team for 3 hours on Monday? You're fired"

So, they will make a law that basically does what every other large business already does? Efficient.

Just make an IT usage policy and stop it on the firewall/proxy server like everyone else.

What is the point of watching porn in an environment where you can't even jack off?

Good thing the Repub morality police are here to save the day again.

Only on company PC's, though. Nothing to do with morality. More to do with being professional and productive at work... Well, it is government. Nevermind. Back to jerkin' it.

I thought Govt workers had to sign an acceptable use policy? Probably some congressmen employee watching and he's choosing to slap everyone nationwide.

Well in my agency we sure as heck do. I remember we had someone once try to go to BJ's warehouse site to look for some bulk supplies we needed and ended up going another type of BJ site. IT had called down all the way down to our field office demanding to know why that site was visited within minutes. I would be surprised if most other agencies don't already do this. I imagine congressional staffers and less IT centric agencies would probably have problems with this.

Also do not forget that visiting sites of ill repute almost always pose huge security risks in terms of malware, virus', and so on. This is nothing new anyway as maybe people can work. After all, our tax dollars were nit intended to pay for people to goof off at work on tax payer funded equipment.

Its already against policy and you likely get fired for looking at porn anyway. So what's the point of this? Over legislation?

Most of the DoD runs Websense or some other white/black listing firewall and block almost everything already. Porn, swimsuit sites, most forums, facebook, youtube, twitter, etc. are all blocked.
And yes, fed computers require and AUP to use, and come with a warning banner that you consent to monitoring by clicking ok.

It's already a fire able offense at many agencies. I'm not sure what this bill would do that the acceptable computer use policy doesn't already. Never mind these systems are already monitored for compliance.

Double super secret firing perhaps?

Because government employees have no idea how to do that, lol!

The fact you blame this on Republicans is retarded.

If this was Obama proposing this, what do you think would be the response in this forum?

Yes, they would blame it on ALL Democrats.

I was actually aiming to stir the hornets nest since there are so many die hard Republicans in this forum but seems I am failing.

Follow the links in the article, and you'll find that Mark Meadows (R-NC) introduced the bill:

Whether the bill passes or not doesn't matter at all, because, as has already been repeatedly pointed out in this thread, it's completely unnecessary legislation. Like most of the legislation in Washington these days, this legislation has purposes orhter than actually being passed. Read the description of the bill, and it's clearly a public relations smear against the EPA, which I'm sure you know very well is an agency that the GOP would very, VERY much like to shut down by any means necessary.

let them watch all the porn they want.

better than the alternative.

You have never been allowed to view porn on govt computers. Morons still try from time to time and get fired...instantly...and escorted off-site by the guys with machineguns. You are not even allowed to view or show anyone else objectionable material on or from your personal cell phone while on-site.

Well it's a law they're trying to make... so I would guess there would now be some criminal penalty. And it's Republicans, so I'd imagine the penalty would be hanging. (If it were Democrats the penalty would be government paid for treatment for your porn addiction at a resort/rehab clinic for the rest of your life.)

I work for a state agency with it's own police force. We fired the Deputy Chief of the Police for watching porn in his office. It is said he watched it all day. Every other part of the agency is filtered and blocks all the porn sites including facebook, etc. The PD PCs aren't behind that wall but still monitored.

I hang out with the so called Fox Tards on Foxnews.com let me say they are not the smartest of the lot.

I have worked for various companies, now a cyber security contractor. None of which monitor which sites you visit. So I am going to assume not many companies do a proactive approach of oh hay guy you're looking at naked people.

Boeing actually has a color filter, any site that shows certain colors is banned (flesh colors). Along with the normal websites.

Any other place I worked we would wait for your computer to get a virus or maleware or whatever and check your cookies/history.....you got prawn sites on it, your laptop is going straight to HR.

Proactive or reactive monitoring?

I really hate when people say they actually monitor where people go.

Its more about how much band-with they use......

I can't even look at anything gaming related on my govt PC let alone anything adult oriented. It is completely blocked and if you continue trying, you get fired. I would like them to tell us which agencies still allow prOn on the their networks...

This is so wrong on so many levels.
First, it's usually already blocked by WebSense anyway.
Second, there are almost always "Acceptable Use Policies" which forbid it.
Third, there are basic work and ethics policies making wasting the time a can-able offense.

There just is no need for this waste of Legislative Resources bullshit. Except that these assholes have to create crap to justify their "Full-Time" positions.

They need to pass a law that makes passing redundant laws an impeachable offense.
