Bill Gives President Emergency Control of Internet

Who wrote that, oh yeah Charlie Rangle, another tax cheat, you know a citizen tried the Geithner "Turbo Tax mistake" defense at a tax evasion hearing & that defense was thrown out for him. But it was ok for the G man.

God is dead he's been replaced by the Big Bang (another scientific concensus) & when Jesus comes back again those Sunday preachers will be the first to crucify him again. The church poor box has been replaced by the "great society" run by the government & who oversees what the government does? The government appointed overseers of course. Why is that? Because we trusted our representatives to do the right things for us. Well they didn't. The Republicrats are all in the men's room at the airport & the Democans are lining their pockets with our $ & trying to hold on to the power to do that. Shutting down opposing voices will do for a start. Elections have consequences. It's time to vote the incumbents out.

yea, let's vote for the pope!

There are a ton of G-men on all sides of the political spectrum that intentionally screw up their taxes and get away with it. Its the culture of Washington. That will most likely never change so I don't really follow who the latest tax evasion politician is. Just hit whoever messes up their taxes with heavy back taxes and be done with it. :D

Hell vote for Palin if you want to. Her old state has no income tax. I know who's spent my state into the red & they want more $ so they can keep spending! I keep trying to vote them out. I just wish the Repubs would have rejected the rest of big Os buds he appointed for cabinet because all of them paid their back taxes, shit a few more & we could have balanced the budget. Oh but don't try that for yourself I don't think you'll look good in an orange jumpsuit.

Nah, that was just Craig who was arrested for *tapping his foot in a stall*

You want the govenor fella who was flying down to South America banging a hottie, lol.

You're the one that suggested revoking tax exempt status from churches. Taking more money from them = more good they can do? LOL

Again: you fail.

I am guessing you are around 12. Otherwise I would simply ask you to stay out of grown up discussions in the future.

Way to take the context of my entire point out of the picture. I originally used this as an example that Government control is NOT the answer. They screwed the pooch on the California deal big time.

You also must've missed the part where I said Enron made it worse. I am not defending them at all, Mr. Troll. What they did was wrong and I won't argue with it. My point was that the GOVERNMENT OF CALIFONIA caused their own energy crisis. Period. But somehow since the FEDERAL government is involved, they think THEIR variations will work better. I think not.

Not a troll, but you're correct that I took it out of context -- it wasn't intentional. For that I apologize.

I do think that Enron more than made the problem worse (because without manipulation by Enron and Reliant, the problems probably wouldn't have existed), but it's also true that the law was terribly flawed (and bad).

Again, I apologize.

Holy smokes, I bet 99.9999999% of you would get withdrawal symptoms if you didn't check your email/look at porn/twitter/facebook/myspace every single day.

Me? I could care less if the President took control of the internet. Life would still go on.

And you'll exercise your right to free speech how else???

Newspapers? Televisions? Town-Hall Meetings? Sorry but the government caps anything that objects to their nonsense. The Internet is one of the few freedoms the whole world has left.

I could care less if they turn off the power to the water in your building as I don't use it.:eek:

And that is because it's paid by the church itself, as part of the payroll tax. Same with any non profit.

Got any more I can answer for you? :)

Just read the link and find what I am talking about:

Election by Church Employees Who Are Opposed to Social Security and Medicare

You may be able to choose to be exempt from social security and Medicare taxes, including the SE tax, if you work for a church (or church-controlled nonprofit division) that does not pay the employer's part of the social security tax on wages. You can make the choice if you are a member of a religious sect or division opposed to social security and Medicare. This exemption does not apply to your service, if any, as a minister of a church or as a member of a religious order.

You can make this choice by filing Form 4029. See Requesting Exemption—Form 4029, later, under Members of Recognized Religious Sects.

It is a feature only held by people working for, and in effect the religious institution itself.

Just saying "You fail" back and forth is just childish and insulting. Then again thats [H] for you.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the internet. The United States was founded on having basic freedoms with a government by the people for the people to keep government control out of our lives.

The controversy dates back to April when Senators Olympia Snowe and Jay Rockefeller drafted S-773, a bill that, in its original form, did have some seriously bad ideas in it. For example, in an emergency, the president could “order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network.”

Outrage predictably followed. And the bill got better, much better. I’ve just read a draft of the whole thing. (Click here to read it too.) And there’s nothing in it that merits the current outrage.

Most of the bill, in the draft I read, proposes ways to improve our cyber-security infrastructure. It recommends scholarships for kids who want to work on cyber security (good idea!) and prizes to inspire contests that will get people to do things in the field (good idea!).

The formerly onerous section, which begins on p.25, has been changed to the following:

In the event of an immediate threat to strategic national interests involving compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network — [the president] may declare a cybersecurity emergency; and may, if the President finds it necessary for the national defense and security, and in coordination with relevant industry sectors, direct the national response to the cyber threat and the timely restoration of the affected critical infrastructure information system or network.

Notice all the hedging. He “may”, “may”, “if he finds it necessary”, “in coordination.” And then they payoff? He can “direct the national response”!

That’s not giving him any powers that he doesn’t already have, and there’s no justification in that language for the hysteria. It is also much more in sync with what Obama himself has said. He has been very clear that he doesn’t want to snoop on private networks, much less take them over.

heh, legislative obscurity. I love when they change phrases around to give them multi-interpretable meanings.

Wired is an Obama lapdog. They'd defend concentration camps if he wanted to put them up.

If Obama doesn't want to govern the internet, then why introduce the bill at all?

Bills are amendable. Once passed, they're going to play with it over time. You just watch.

Exactly.

To respond to the "direct the nation" mention... You think if the US electricity grid got hacked by North Korea, and half the nation lost power... That he wouldn't "direct the nation" anyway?

Nah, this is just the first step of them gaining control of the internet. Internet is a private (mostly) owned network that the government should not muck with.

he just wants to be able to disconnect from Xbox live when he is losing in Madden without getting hit with a quit/lost on his ranking...

But calling people 12 years old is clearly the ticket.

Insulting someone for a negative response, and feeling good about getting it, is simply childish. I was insulted, I responded, and thats what immaturity wants. I played right into it. I did not start with insults. I responded to them in an indecent manner. I will try not to make that mistake again. If I roll in the mud with pigs of [H], I will get dirty.

When in rome...

Just don't get out of hand

Yeah, and when they turn 65, they don't get to collect social security, medicare, or medicaide either.

It's a fools option IMHO. And it's nothing you need to worry about. Smart people pay that tax. :)

It will be dried up by the time my generation comes to collect on it. Unless something really changes in Washington and they stop dipping into it for pet projects.

Bye Obama, don't let the door hit you on the way out in 2013.

Well unless the republicans suddenly start becoming more moderate instead of batshit crazy, they will have no hope of getting any closer than last election. They stimulate their base while the majority of the country is scared off by the tactics.

If they present ways to fix the economy and the healthcare system that really have some numbers behind it they will possibly win the next national election. I would like to see them do some good for the country but I don't think thats their goal right now. Its all spent on smear campaigning as of late.

With the trillions in debt and them lining up to spend trillions more, there's no possible way. They can lie to us all they want, but anyone with a single brain cell is smart enough to know better. The only way they're going to be moving forward is with more fear tactics and tyrannical control. Just wait until the manufactured pandemic hits.

we are the fog in the pot of water slowly being warmed to a boil- right now, we are close to death....

there is not one person in here that can name one legitimate reason for Presidental control of the Internet. if you got sensitive stuff on the Internet, you fucked up. mission critical stuff should NOT BE ATTACHED TO THE INTERNET. anyone with an ounce of common sense knows this

No, were just American's that still believe in freedom.

If you think republicans believe in freedom you have never read the Patriot Acts 1 and 2. You lost more rights from those pieces of legislation than blacks gained from Civil Rights. Republican media had their heads in the sand then right? lol

I hope you were joking.
