Bill Gates Has Given Away $28 Billion Since 2007

So what you're saying is that he probably doesn't pay taxes... fucking 1%ers...

:p

Billy is a good ole guy. He pledged to give 99% of his money when he's dead. The 1% will be enough to support his family.

It's pretty incomprehensible how much money someone like Bill Gates has. Here's how much he has when converted to millions (just as a visual aid):

Maybe Windows was just part of his plan to make this world a better place. Who knows?

I saw in an old 60 minutes interview, he said he just liked running the business, and didn't really care about having a lot of money. He said then (early Windows days, I think before 3.1) that if he made a lot of money, he'd just give it away.

Well, he meant what he said.

Lots of CEOs like the ones at HP and other companies give away billions each year too! Just they do it on the stock markets and in stupid schemes! But apparently that isn't "noble!" :p

The people whose lives they've saved don't hate them. And even if some are unappreciative, at least they're alive to feel that way. It's easy for us in the USA to take everything we've got for granted - we get so obsessed over minor issues that really aren't problems at all when you compare to what others are going through.

That is what I really like about them and MS, they basically have so much money that they technically can't spend it on anything anymore, so they are just giving them away.

This is good, but it would be so much better if he found a way to give me a days worth of donations... umm about 1.4M.

Damn it Bill you're a socialist! Let those people starving/malaria/polio get their own damn money!

Mr. and Mrs. Gates, thank you for being so kind to those so unfortunate.

All I can say is, Bill and Melinda together are wonderful humanitarians. More of society should be like them.

So what Gates have to start with 50 billion. And Jobs had 9 billion. A big difference. I wouldn't give any.

Bill I need a grant. I have this theory of powering the world using the earth's gravitational and rotational forces. 28 Billion will be cutting a few corners but I think I can make it happen within the tight confines of the proposed budget.

Every time I rerun the numbers, $28 billion over five years comes out to $15,342,465.75 per day.

Am I doing it wrong or is everyone else?

it's great that he's giving away all that money. may be more of it is being used than wasted like in old times.

about his kids, well they already has their own share of microsoft which makes them millions every year and i bet they are billionaire too.

He has spent lot of money as building his own personal ship as the size of biggest battleship, owns 747 and lot of other things, so i doubt there is anything more he needs.

compare to him steve jobs has given out nothing more than a scholarship under his and his wife's name nothing more than that.

anyway may be i'll be rich one day to give out million dollars for something good.

He didn't, nor did he need to: his presence alone was enough of a donation. His being there was "innovative", and "magical".

Thanks, thats funny :D
Seriously, when he died, I felt the 'genius' got DE-valued.

Microsoft is not the evil empire. They have saved millions of lives. It's Apple that's the scumbag company. Jobs never gave anything to charity and knowingly used slave labor.

If you want to do right by the world, buy Microsoft products. Your money will go to charitable causes and help people in third world countries. Apple is the electronic equivalent of buying blood diamonds. Your ipad may look pretty, but somebody probably got their hand crushed in a machine press making it.

Even if I had 1 billion dollars I would give a lot away. Even 1 billion dollars is more than anyone will ever need. That being said, I think if you are a billionaire, you have a right to your money, so it's perfectly OK if you want to keep it for your own self-indulgence. Rich people should donate to non-profits, not have to pay more in taxes that are supposedly going to "benefit" the poor.

As people get rich their collateral goes up. You need a decent amount of cash flow to keep your base of operations every month i.e. your homes, charities, organizations, taxes. People keep thinking if they make over 8 figures, they will have more money than they will ever need but your spending power scales with your improving lifestyle. Subtract your expensive lifestyle, emergency dependencies, and money grabbing relatives you need a decent amount of that money in reserve. Point is Bill Gates is a well balanced philanthropist and a businessman. Ordinary people who thinks they can throw their lottery money to charities with an open heart won't be able to continue to do so for long.

I've just got to say, I don't think I've been quoted so much in one thread before. It was just a simple question. =)

Well, yes and no ... the "your money will go to charitable causes ... Apple=buying blood diamonds. You know the recent Foxconn thing? Xbox Plant - http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/201...-mass-suicide-at-foxconn-plant_n_1198860.html

I do believe we need to bring manufacturing back here to the U.S. (and yes I know that means things would probably cost more, but it's jobs for OUR citizens, paying taxes, being able to afford to have a roof over their heads and care for their families - and boost the economy in the long run).

His children will probably, according to this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/mos...able-interview-worlds-second-richest-man.html get around $10,000,000.00 (ten million!) each WHEW

"He won’t specify what they will get, but the reports that they’ll receive ‘only’ $10 million each can’t be far off, because he concedes, ‘It will be a minuscule portion of my wealth. It will mean they have to find their own way.

'They will be given an unbelievable education and that will all be paid for. And certainly anything related to health issues we will take care of. But in terms of their income, they will have to pick a job they like and go to work. They are normal kids now. They do chores, they get pocket money.’"

What the Gates Foundation does is amazing, that they've been able to get others on board is amazing. Keep it going Bill!! Would like to see more news stories of some of this largesse being kept and spent here, plenty are in need. Though they are truly involved in education here which is wonderful. Healthcare, housing, food, those other true basics should be included with that nation-wide.

In the meantime, (selfishly) is there any way for an abi-normal disabled existing on SSDI poor person (me) to get in line for just like $15,000? Just enough to be able to get my teeth fixed properly so I can eat properly and see the doctors I need to on a regular basis?
