BGA Rework Service...

Plenty of places pop up with a google search for bga reball service

Costs last time I heard ran in the $200-$300 and up range for the service, plus shipping both ways.

Did you manage to find a MPC7448? Searching around those things cost a small fortune, and they're soldered on boards.

A 1.7GHz chip costs $330 from Mouser.

Well, it sounds like a plan then. $530-$630 (on a laptop worth less than $300) for absolutely no increase in performance, if your current clock speed from the other thread is true. Not quite up to Willamette Pentium 4 performance, but you get what you get. lol
