BF2:MC xbox 360 - point in ranking up?

What is the point in ranking up in the game? Do you unlock new weapons or something? If so, how? I am Master Sgt now but I think the weapons are still the same(I think). Please let me know!
 
It is just the same as the rank in Halo, it is pretty useless, just a bragging right and it seems to only let me play people around my level. I tried to play with some other guy I met last night that was at 2k points and I am at 600 and it wouldnt let me play him, so I guess thats the only point to the point system .....
 
In the multiplayer I don't think you gain weapon unlocks, but you do in the single player part of it.
