Best Youtube downloader?

have a look at userscripts.org, works in FF with greasemonkey and Chrome with tampermonkey.

there's a few downloaders out there that run great. (sort by last updated then look at reviews)

I use GetFLV for all my download needs. Yes you have to fork out $60 for it but over the years there really hasn't been anything anywhere that couldn't be downloaded with it.

The BEST Youtube downloader of them all:

YouTube Center
firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-center/
greasemonkey: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/114002

Not only does it come with loads of extra Youtube functionality (like being able to disable that dog-forsaken caching that only loads a certain block of video at a time, every time you jump around), but it also has functionality to add a "Download" button right below all Youtube videos. It even looks like a native Youtube function. You can have it save any video in different varying qualities and resolutions.

I use this button and the "repeat" button often.

Developer updates it very frequently, and even incorporates automatic updating, if desired, to stay on top of youtube's frequent changes.

Yep, this is what I use, and I highly recommend it. You can also try the Developer version which is updated everyday (can be annoying), but the stable version does a great job and the developer is very active in the userscripts forum.

Google are currently on the back of every website that promotes downloading of YT videos, giving website admins warnings as short as 3 hours, to get them to remove any scripts/programs, or they will be excluded from the Adsense program, losing their accounts and money.

AutoItscript.com just went through it, all such scripts were removed or he (Jonathan Bennett) would loose his Adsense account.

Google no like no more :(

Well that's a bite :/ What's the sudden reasoning?

I wonder if Google will pressure an entire community like userscripts.org and/or addons.mozilla.org to follow suit?

Is he addressing the huge memory leak issue, the high CPU usage issue, the frequent crashing issue, and the not working on Firefox 29+ issue, all listed in the reviews on the page you linked to?

I second Youtube Center as well. I use it for both Firefox and Chrome via Greasemonkey with user scripts.

The other one I have tried and does work is a command line utility for Windows. I forgot the name now and will have to look for it again.

Do not get the RealPlayer program, that one has not worked for me 100% at all. Also, be careful of ones that claim to download it but also spam you with installable adware software.

I've always used this and it works perfectly.

+1. I was just coming back to mention this. For one-off videos, I use the "Youtube Center" browser script, which has a nice "Download" button underneath every video. But Youtube-dl has the ability to download entire playlists, with some great commandline options/abilities. It can also be scheduled to be reoccurring.

Probably not (yet). One of many reasons why I haven't made the jump to 29+ yet.

I've been using FlashGot.
Ditto the Flashgot love. Finally something that can't be intentionally broken by Google within 36 hours of being released.. :)

Speaking of which, if there's any chance of discussion about how people are getting from Flashgot's captures to more standard HD formats, I'd love to read it. Currently I use VLC to convert the video streams to an interim format (either TS or MP4), and convert the separate M4A audio stream to an interim MP4. Finally I use tsMuxer to remux the audio/video to MPEG2 TS, or MKVToolnix for Matroska format.. The process entails no reencoding so it's lossless, and it's probably more steps than necessary, but it works 100% of the time.

The easiest youtube downloader I've found is VideoGrabby .
It supports mp3 extraction and high quality downloads. It's a web-app, meaning you don't have to install any software on your computer.

I use this small trick to download youtube videos...
The Youtube like is as follows : http://www.youtube.com/........
just change the URL to : http://www.youmagictube.com/....... (add magic between "you" and "tube" )

that is pretty sweet. I'll use that for files that Downloadhelper won't get.
Vevo music videos don't download with the Downloadhelper but did with the magic site.
this won't download with the download helper, just a 0 byte file,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTA2buWlNyM

using the magic site and it downloaded.

For more than 3 years I'm using DamnVid. DamnVid is a savvy app designed to download videos from sharing websites like YouTube, Dailymotion, Veoh and Metacafe and convert them into any video format. Moreover, it allows converting YouTube videos to MP3.

I've been using 4k video downloader. Downloads at max res and very quickly. Rock solid.

Am I the only one a little worried about posters with less than 10 posts giving software download recommendations here?

Poster with one post recommending the post by another poster of one post even. One post and never returned. Classic.

Freemake Video Downloader / Converter
These are both adware, but are very good, plus you can choose NOT to install the additional software, during the install, these are not associated with the programs, and the programs still work fine.

FFmpeg has an outstanding hall-of-shame GPL violation complaint lodged against wraith381's suggestion.
"potentially unwanted search toolbar from Conduit as well as SweetPacks malware"

I agree, the best YouTube downloader so far.
