Santa brought some boxed sets this holiday and I was wondering what the best way to rip them to the WHS server would be.

I would like to separate out all the episodes if possible.

I know I could just rip the whole disk but I was wondering if there was a better way.

Thanks!

MakeMKV - nuff said

I use it on lots of DVD episodes, and usually DVD episodes are seperated as different chapters/files so it makes it easy to seperate them.

It saves them as MKV format though but if thats fine for you, its the best out there i think.

well have never used MKV files but I hear all sorts of things about them here on the forum.

What do I have to do so they look and work nice with win7 media center?

Its pretty easy, i don't knwo what OS you are using but... heres what I did for Windows 7:

Great guide, glad to see it was saved.. sorta... few important things i'd like to see added:

MKV Support within MCE. I'mn on 64 bit but heres what I did... run these registry files:

Step 1.

Download Gabest’s Matroska Splitters. There is a version of Gabest’s with an installer for x86 here and x64 here. To install simply extract to your C:\ root drive and right-click to run “gabest_splitter_enable.cmd” as administrator. You should receive one confirmation on x86 and two for x64 versions. To uninstall simply run “gabest_splitter_remove.cmd” as administrator.

x64: http://www.hack7mc.com/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=11

Hint: After you install it, DONT remove it... it actually installs a system service and will run the file upon reboot

Step 2:

Enable viewing of MKV files in Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center by downloading either the x86 registry file or x64 registry file and double-click to add it to your registry. Allow it to be added when prompted. Restart your machine.

I agree, since you're using Win7 go with MKV. It's a far superior container to AVI.

Ohh definitly. Also allows for multiple languages/subtitles/chapters/etc...

what is the best way to add media data? my movies doesn't really figure it out. ( not that I thought it would )
