I know there are many ways of backing up for valuables on your hard drives. I have tons of media files and pictures that I really would hate to lose. What are some of the best ways to protect your data from something such as a harddrive dying on you?

Depends on how much you have and how much you're willing to spend to protect it -- some use CD/DVD's, some use external HDDs, some use RAID arrays (bleh), some use tape drives, some use other computers.

The best way would really depend on how much data you have, how much it means to you, how fast you'd like to have the backup done, etc.

If we're talking 1TB+, then it's gunna get expensive. If you've got 20-100GB or so, a tape drive would work great, like an LTO or SDLT drive. If more, then an external hard drive. If it's only a few gigs, DVD's oughta work. I'm personally a fan of the tape drive.
