hi all, just want to get some suggestions from you on what card i should get for under $300..
i play Diablo3,Defiance,Rift and Neverwinter. I plan on upgrading my CPU next year, so i can't get something that will bottleneck my current CPU. Also, would it be possible to keep my GTX275 for Physx support..?? Thank you all in advance and have a great day..!! :)

If your sig is correct that you have an i5-2500K at 4.3GHz, then you can't get something that will bottleneck it for under $300, or over $300 for that matter, without doing something ridiculous like Tri-SLI. Upgrading from a 2500K is not yet compelling. So don't worry about that.

You can get an EVGA GTX 770 2GB on newegg for $310 after rebate, which is perilously close to your budget.

Thank you for the quick reply evilsofa..!! i can do a little over 300 np... just didnt know if my current setup would have to be upgraded if i wanted to get one of these new cards. :) I will check out the GTX770 and get one by tomorrow..!! just gotta figure out which would be the best one since there are a few variations of the card..lol.. thankx again!!

All depends on how eager you are to upgrade. 20nm Maxwell is supposed to launch later this year.

Just for reference. I went from a GTX260->GTX680. Night and day difference! I'm running a 2500k at 4.6GHz

R9 280x would be my choice. Slightly faster than a GTX770 and routinely go for $300 and a little under. GTX770's are still a little rare at $300 and usually start around $325. So faster card, less money. Win/win.

Here is a HIS model for $280 shipped with a $20 mail in rebate and a $15 off with code DADGIFT3 good til 6/18. Not gonna beat that for the price.

Yeah, I have a 280x and I've been happy with it.

It's just that the OP mentioned PhysX, so I assumed he wanted to go w/ Nvidia.

True. I'm not sure it's worth it though at least not in my opinion. PhysX is cool and all but with a 280x being faster than a GTX 770 and costs $50 less, the very limited benefit PhysX brings to the table ain't worth it.

Now that being said, if you just like Nvidia better and like the PhysX play pretties then there is absolutely nothing wrong in going with a 770. You could get a beefy one like a EVGA FTW or MSI Gaming or something like that and overclock it's nads off and you'd have more GPU muscle than a 280x and OP could retain his 275 for PhysX (which I'm not entirely sure if it would be fast enough honestly) but would be spending a good bit more than $300. But a lot of us, especially me, buy what we want because we want it and don't pay top much attention to value shopping. These are our toys after all. ;)

running an older still i7 860 at 4.2Ghz and have had a GTX260, 580 and now a 780 Ti in it
get as much as you want/ can afford to get
the new 6GB 780 would be good one to look at

No ned for a new CPU.

Yes the 275 can be used as a dedicated physX card, but it should be a hassle if the primary GPU is from AMD.
You can find guides for dedicated running a dedicated physX card on the forum.
Just remember to check the PSU and the motherboard has the necessary slots/plugs, and you may have to share pci-e lanes between the two GPU's.

thank you all for the great responses and ideas..! I am most inclined to Nvidia mostly because its all i've ever used. I also dont know if my mobo can accomodate another type of card.Either way, here in the west coast, the price of a GTX770 is way over $300 as I found out. So i'm definitely gonna be looking for a GTX760. :( And since im also gonna be using a couple gift cards that i have saved up (lol) , i cant use an online retailer or Ebay since they require a single CC transaction. Anyways, i thank you all for the great feedback and hopefully now ill find a good GTX760 at the local BestBuy or Fry's store. have a great day all..!! :)

There are a lot of used Radeon 280x gpus on ebay for $150, $172, or a Gigabyte 280x WF3 for $190.

That price is compelling enough for all but the most die-hard nVidia fans. You'll know if you're a die-hard if you still buy a $300 Geforce when you can get a faster Radeon 280x card for $150.

Yes, your motherboard can accommodate a Radeon. Motherboards don't have brand preference for gpus. In fact, I used a Radeon with my 2500k for about 2 years.

Just putting what i think you want and what people are saying into perspective.
If you want to have best performance for the buck, go with with a 280x or even a R9 290 (can be had for under 300 in some cases). But then you will need to spend some time with your computer and make some driver changes. You don't have to be super tech savvy, but some knowledge will help.

The more painless method (for you) is to get a 770, you have the drivers, you're replacing a card in kind and you will need to do almost nothing else.

If a 770 will work in your PC, so will a 280x or 290. There are no hardware restrictions.
But it's really up to you, what you feel you are more comfortable with doing.

thankx Megalomaniac...i decided to go with a gtx770 4gb. like you said, its a card ive known and used forever...and its alot easier to for me to deal with. thank you all for your time to respond and for your great ideas and suggestions..!! have a great Father's Day weekend everybody..!! :)

Nice choice. The 4GB 770 is a model that's begging for an SLI setup, so you definitely have a nice upgrade path. Please post back once you get it up and running to let us know your impressions and thoughts!

also if you havent overclock your CPU your missing out on a cheap up grade just by getting better cooling

hi all..just a quick update here. this card kicks a$$..!! of course coming from a gtx 275 was a huge improvement. I installed some old games just to kick up all the eye candy, and man do i enjoy playing these games again..!! Far Cry 3, Skyrim, Tomb Raider and Borderlands 1&2...thank you all for your ideas and suggestions..!! :)

now OC that cpu :D you should be able to get AT LEST 4Ghz of out if not more 4.5 seems pretty common for the 2500k
and trust me get a nice kit of 8GB x2 of ram and you should be set for a wile

On the second line of his sig, he states he has the CPU running at 4.3GHz, which is good enough.
