Anyone have suggestions on the best card to use and a compatible remote that will work in ubuntu. I just want to watch and record SD and HD tv. Can I record through my comcast box or just run it directly through the coax line? Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!

pcHDTV5500

made for linux and mythtv. I have one and it rocks for HD. I have the coax running into it so I get the few QAM channels from Comcast Chicago. I also have a pvr150 for which I run my cable box into via composite and use a serial port to change channels on. I haven't tried running the box via svideo into the pcHDTV yet cause I know it can be set up for that as well. I am happy with my HD quality since most of the HD i record are tv shows on the locals anyway. I can tell you that the card was very hassle free when it came to installation.

As far as remote I had a Silverstone LC10M which had an iMON vfd/ir and was able to control it with the remote the case came with. Also when I switched everything over to my Logitech Harmony I was able to use that as well.

Solid Linux card but I don't remember how or even if it has a usable NTSC tuner but it does do ATSC and possibly ClearQAM (new win drivers expose ClearQAM but I'm unclear if Linux drivers have been updated for it).

Great card but not sure if it's got linux drivers.

No reason not to get it, it's a great remote.

I can guarantee you the pcHDTV5500 I linked you to works.

Check here. It even has the first card CrimandEvil linked you to in that list and tells you what you need to do to get it working.
