I'm looking to assist a friend with a PC purchase. She wants to buy now that Windows 7 is out. Seems that all the deals on slickdeals are dead, they did have a Dell with a 24" for $484 shipped but it's dead.

Desired specs:
Major brand name vendor - I'm not going to build one for her, no way.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel dual core
4GB RAM
Lightscribe DVD-+RW Dual layer
Integrated graphics ok

I was able to build a p6250t at HP.com with my government employee discount for $570 and free shipping with 21.6 and E5300 but I think I can do a little better if I just wait for a hot deal.

Costco has the basically the same machine with a 20" monitor for $579.99, if they're selling it for that price my deal is not really that great. Costco does offer free 2nd year warranty though on electronics purchases, and hey it's not my money. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...=8&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

Xeon server (No OS)
Dell T110 Server
Configure it with 1 harddrive and 1x2gb ram = $320

Add a dvd burner and OS. You have a i5 Quadcore.

Interesting, but how much noise does it make? And what the heck is a UIDIMM?

The additional 2GB of RAM to get to 4GB is $70, optical drive $30. Hmm. That's not so hot. I think this would be a good deal for myself but not so good for my friend.
