I'm looking for the best at detecting and getting rid of anything my computer doesn't need. What do you guys use out there?

There is no best thing as no one software will pick up everything so you'll need to use a combination of two or more scanners to do a "thorough" job. Of course the best solution is common sense and not get yourself in that situation in the first place but yea.

at work we use a program called malware bytes to clean up malware paired up with Symantic Corporate. I do believe that the Malware Bytes is a free program

I use NOD32 in conjunction with Spybot and Windows Defender.

+1 for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate, it is a great solution as well.

I always recommend OneCare or Microsoft Forefront, but some might call me biased. ;)

I personally believe toptenreview to be very accurate with it's ratings for these products. Although I believe Counterspy to be the best. Still close though. But you should always use three to four different top rated antispyware programs for high level protection. At least one paid for one like Counterpsy and then three free ones like spybot, Superantispyware, and _______(Switch it up).

I'm currently using AntiVir
PE

Premium, but Norton and AVK are really good too.

I also use Avira AntiVir, top notch antivirus software.:D

My secret weapon is Trend Micro Housecall. Its free, its web based, and it does a pretty good first run. Then I use a combination of norton + windows defender.

I think Kazaa will get you all those things in the title. :p

I use Nod32 + Malware Bytes and since running Vista the Microsoft Defender, have no problems at all that and if I feel it is going to be an iffy site then I just run inside of a VM and that just solves most of the issue right there since I use the undo disks in VPC. :)

malware bytes

superantispyware

unhackme (have another computer close with Net access so you can research the things it finds)

hijackthis (using a 2-3 online log analyzers)

those are my favorites right now
