Hi Everyone,

My usage consists of Web Browsing, SQL Server Databse Development, HTML5/Javascript/CSS3 Application Development, MS Visual Studio, some music and movies.

Which of the following configurations would offer the best performance? Please rate them from 1 to 5.

Intel Core i5-3230M 2.60GHz, HM77 chipset, 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CAS 11, 500GB - 5400RPM - SATA 3 - WD Blue.

Intel Core i3-3110M 2.40GHz, HM77 chipset, 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CAS 11, 500GB - 5400RPM - SATA 3 - WD Blue.

Intel Core i3-3110M 2.40GHz, HM77 chipset, 4GB DDR3 1333MHz CAS 9, 500GB - 5400RPM - SATA 3 - WD Blue.

Intel Core i3-3110M 2.40GHz, HM77 chipset, 8GB DDR3 1333MHz CAS 9, 500GB - 5400RPM - SATA 3 - WD Blue.

Intel Core i3-3110M 2.40GHz, HM77 chipset, 8GB DDR3 1600MHz CAS 9, 500GB - 5400RPM - SATA 3 - WD Blue.

Thanks,

You are not going to see much difference between CAS 9 and CAS 11 unless you use benchmarks to do so. Theoretically though CAS 9 RAM is better than CAS 11 RAM of the same speed. But unless you can perceive time in fractions of seconds, it makes no difference.

I will simply tell you to get the Core i5 version and make sure you get 1 stick of 4GB of RAM in it (very likely) instead of 2 sticks of 2GB RAM (unlikely to be the case). Lenovo generally charges $80 for the extra 4GB of RAM. You should be able to by a single stick of 4GB RAM for $50.

The reason I recommend the Core i5 is because it has Turbo Boost which automatically overclocks (up to 3.2GHz) the CPU assuming the temps are not too high. Core i3 CPUs lacks this ability; otherwise the Core i3 and Core i5 are basically the same CPU.
