Best OC Memory For The 1950X?

I am thinking of this set up but I am still struggling with my memory choice.

CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X
MOBO: Asus ROG Zenith Extreme
MEMORY: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK32GX4M4B3200C14R (True latency 8,75ns)

Donnow where the 'R' stand for btw?

I am aware of these compatible memory lists:

This memory has the lowest CAS Latency I could find but does that really matter that much?

Stick with CL14 ram sticks for Threadripper. They're the Samsung B-Dies. You'll have a bad day with anything else really.

I certainly will but then I think CL14 will be more difficult to find if this is as important as serbiaNem just said. And that was exactly my question.

Of course I will have to look at the true latency numbers instead of the fabric latency numbers which can differ.

It's a trade off between memory speed and latency also In my choice for 16GB or 32GB and that is what makes it so difficult.

I know in the past we use to fill only two Dimm slots for better OC but I assume that filling four of them doesn't matter that much anymore today (X399 uses Quad Channel DDR4) but I could be wrong.

Of course if I think 16GB is enough that problem will be solved although I rather put in 32GB.

For Ryzen and ThreadRipper, the motherboard QVL list is way more important than the memory manufacturer postulating that their memory will work. If the memory you want isn't on the QVL list, proceed with caution.
 
I'd stick with G.skill Tridents and the newer Ryzen model, TZRX.

For the overclockers the G.Skill Trident Z 32GB 3200 MHz CL14 is the best choice. The overclocking potential is excellent: the chips used in these modules can handle a very high voltage and they also perform very well indeed. The 4000 MHz at CL12 it achieved in our max. OC-test is impressive to say the least. Due to those low timings its performance is even higher compared to a HyperX-kit overclocked to 4133 MHz.

Im using gskill rgb 3000 on mine. Worked from day 1 out of the box. I just dont know if 3600 really helps anymore. I get over 80GB/sec bandwidth at 3000 speed. Im usong CL16 but 14 would probably givw me 2 or 3 fps in a game or shave a second off of video transcode. Not sure if its worth the premium really.

For Ryzen and ThreadRipper, the motherboard QVL list is way more important than the memory manufacturer postulating that their memory will work. If the memory you want isn't on the QVL list, proceed with caution.
Not necessarily. At the time when I bought my FlareX, they were not on the QVL but Gskill did show them working at rated speeds on my Taichi board. So sometimes the Ram Manufacturers have their own tested list, as was the case with my Ryzen.

I am using G.Skill RGB 32(4x8) kit of 3000 speed. Of course the new G.Skill dedicated to Threadripper kits should give a better OC. I am thinking that anything past 3200 is diminishing in return but I am not qualified to make such a claim short of my own opinion based on here and there observations.

I am going to pick up an 8700K this weekend if available from Microcenter and will probably get a 16GB 3600 kit for it. However, I will try and see if I can get the ram to run @ 3600 in the Threadripper and see how it scales. If I am able to do this I will of course share my amateur findings with the community here.

I am not sure which brand you're looking at but the G.Skill F4-3600C15D-16GTZ has the lowest True latency of 8,33ns while the other G.Skill's have a True latency of 8,89ns. But according to the review below other options maybe more attractive.

Conclusion

The maximum clock speeds available on DDR4 memory that you can buy keeps increasing. Faster memory can make some difference for gamers, however you shouldn't spend more than ten pounds extra, since the performance gains you get by spending more aren't worth the extra money. Above 3000 MHz faster memory doesn't increase performance as much compared to lower speeds, while the price difference becomes larger and larger.

As you might've noticed on the last page, memory kits like this are mainly a nice toy for overclockers. With a bit of luck and a lot of tinkering you might be able to lower the cas-latency or you might be able to increase the clock speed a bit higher, which will lead to top scores in specific benchmarks.

In the scene G.Skill has more or less developed themselves to the ultimate choice, since they're one of the few manufacturers that offer memory with speeds like this. Even though this doesn't necessarily mean that you'll also get the best performance, we once again broke clock frequency records in this review. Therefore this kit from G.Skill gets a well-deserved Ultimate Product Award, which luckily disregards the price-performance ratio.

I had an MSI pop on me. Ymmv though. It was a very nice board for the money. I now have a Zenith and its nice too but the MSI felt like right in the sweet spot for price to features.

I had had an unusually slow boot with my old MSI TR board. The socket fitting for the CPU was better than my Gigabyte, but not worth the trade-off IMO.

it may but the odds of it ever showing up on there are slim.. most of the manufactures stop updating their QVL list after the first month.
 
You can get cas 14 3600 now and if it runs it supposedly closes the vs. INTEL IPC gap substantially.

Apparently has to do with feeding that beast of infinity fabric
