Best NVMe right now ?

You wont actually notice the difference between any of them but...

+1 to this. Buy for capacity, not their ability to post bigger CrystalDiskMark numbers. Almost none of that translates into user experience.

There's Optane, but if 'best' means higher sustained transfer rates?
how to know which ones can copy large 50-100Gb files without running out of cache? or what ever makes the lower end ones drop to a snails pace with big files

Look they all get crippled by the modern trend of micro-files to the KBps so really go on best price, size and warranty. There is no 'best' solution.

Tech is all slowly getting a 'much of a muchness'. This is also going to put a lot of firms out of business. There won't be any real discernable difference in terms of performance in 95% of cases. The ones that do have any real difference will cost 5 times as much or still be best suited for non domestic work.

Honestly this is a good thing -- let them figure out how to differentiate and better serve their customers. Obviously for SSDs using the same NAND and same controllers, that means mostly focusing on price, but perhaps there's more?

Even the cheaper ones are dang fast now days. It's that dependability factor that comes into play.

this is really the most relevant answer. Right now, the price premium buys you a drive that can sustain write speeds longer. All SSD’s feel fast in normal usage. But if you plan on writing big files, and you know the size of those writes, than you can start looking at reviews for drives.

the intel 660p/665p is cheap, but write speed drops off hard after about 15-20GB (in continuous writes). The Samsung Pro’s are 2x as much, but will write at 2000MB/s till the very end. But the intel uses very little power, while the Samsung uses a lot.

gotta balance the +/-
