Well I have done alot of thinking today. I have decided to scrap my idea of trying to find a good crt: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1340655 and just get a good lcd. I have lot of crap laying around here that I can ebay and get some money. I really don't need anything bigger than 22", in fact I think that is almost too big. Basically I can't stand TN panels because of the contrast change when ever I move my head around just alittle bit or even just slouch in the chair. I have seen non tn panels before and I like them I think.

I went to best buy today to get some ideas on what to buy. I started by just standing at the end of the lcd display isle and looking down the row of panels at a sharp angle. Very disappointing, all the panels were the same except one giant 24" gateway. I could see it clearly sticking out compared to the others. 24" is just too big though. I did see a few Imacs there and to my knowledge they are ips, they were very nice that is for sure.
I have spent 3 days now without a monitor and doing all this research on my acer aspire one with 9", very painful :D

I am going to try and do some digging on here but please if anyone can speed up my choice or give me some tips please do:)

well the 220x is va and some reviews I read state that it had color shift issues. I think right now I am going to get the HP LP2065. I will wait around for a day or so and see if anyone vetoes this...

Well I went with the HP LP2065, I didn't want to take any risk of any kind of color shift problem. If I find anything wrong with it I will let you guys know.

What's a TN and what's not a TN? I been looking for this answer, I don't know wtf TN stands for!??!!!

The LP2065 is on my list as well. Please post your impressions when you can. I'll be interested to hear what you think.

Ok I got this thing in last night. I must say that I am very impressed. I was amazed at how close the default settings are to optimal. I really didn't have to tweak anything. It is the IPS model. I bought it from newegg. Viewing angles are great. The only time I can even see the purple hue on a black screen is if I am in a linux full screen terminal. I have never noticed the hue on any dark pictures. I think the contrast is close to my crt that it replaced.

I can't really see #'s 1-3 over here: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php and I can barely see the 4-6 ones. I can see everything on this image though

I didn't noticed anything bad playing a couple of FPS games. Yes it sucks not being able to use 75hz+ because 60hz with vsync is too slow and without vsync I get tearing so I don't know. Scaling is alright but you know when you are not at the native res.

I did notice the sparkly/holographic looking anti glare stuff. It is really noticeable on white. It messed with my eyes at first but after an hour or so I never noticed it unless I look for it. I can not see any screen door effect.

Great monitor, I am happy :)

I had the Lenovo. Honestly wasn't that impressed with it. The panel/coating is quite grainy.

Thanks for posting back about this. I'm still considering this model. Anybody know if the Dell 2007FP has the same anti glare coating (if you get the S-IPS version, it's the same panel as the LP2065).

You should buy it man. You won't be disappointed. And yea I think the dell has the same coating. It hasn't bothered me yet really. All I say in my review is that if you look for it, then you will see it.

Dell is so 2003... ;)

Isn't LP2065 a victim of the pannel lottery? I mean some has IPS and some PVA screens. PVA = gamma shift :-/

Both the HP LP2065 and the Dell 2007FP are victims of the panel lottery. It is possible to find a few vendors that can tell you the panel type of the HP they have in stock. I opted to try for the Dell because many on this forum (and three Dell sales reps) said they are shipping only IPS panels now. The one I got two days ago was the PVA panel, so it's on the way back to Dell.

At least with the Dell you can see what you get once you have the serial number. You can return it without opening the box. Serial ending in S > PVA. Ending on L? > IPS.

I went with the Dell, since I like the design more (black bezel) and one of Dell's 30" (3007WFP-HC) has a identical design (keeps my upgrade path to triple screen nice and open).

I went with Dell because of the design also. Plus, my current soundbar would have worked with it. It's a moot point now. Looks like I won't be out any money. It's just a pain to be told something (three times) and have it still not be right.

From what I have read it was only a small shipment of them were pva several months ago.
