Hey guys, I am looking for a good monitor that can be used for surround and 3D gaming. I've found a couple of monitors that seem to be able to do the trick but I wanna get some input on it. Price isn't a deciding factor (unless it is ridiculously overpriced haha)

Here are a few I have considered:

ASUS VG236HE Black 23" 1920X1080 2ms

Acer GD235HZbid Black/orange 23.6" 2ms

Planar SA2311W 23" Widescreen HD LCD Monitor

Alienware OptX AW2310

Thanks in advance

Then there is the Benq, and the LG.

We really need a site to have a proper shootout between these 6.

Im holding out for the next lineup from samsung, they seem to do well with ghosting. The planar supposedly has a newer gen. Samsung panel.

So your leaning more towards getting the 3d Surround now? I know you said that money was preventing you? Did my last post push you more towards going for it?

I would check this 3d monitor forum out, and look in 3d Monitors section. They see to have most people interested in these monitors post in these forums so you may find out much more information.

Haha yes...plus i read some reviews (including one over at anandtech) and it looks like the tech is actually maturing really well. I usually don't grab the newest tech until it becomes industry standard but i'm really itching for some 3D surround haha!

Edit: Oh and thanks for the link!

JWD1989: What is crazy is I didn't really know much about this 3dsurround until like a couple of weeks ago. I always wished I could see more in a game on the sides, but when I heard that this technology is out and actually works, I was amazed I didn't know about it.

I've been playing world of tanks lately, and most of the time when I die is because I miss someone to the sides. This technology will actually make me now see those tanks on the sides. I can honetly not wait to get it.

I am going the 3 27" 3d monitor route. I always wanted a 27". I am waiting for the release in May of the new 3d 27" monitor from Samsung. I will of course jump on the 120Hz refresh and 3d graphics. That was actually what I was upgrading to until I heard of the Surround. I will probably just buy 1 580Gtx 3gb card and 1 27" 3d monitor. Then I will buy the additional monitors and 580gtx.

You should view the XL2410T thread on HardForum:

I recommend users who are looking for 3D or 120hz to consider the BenQ XL2410T, not because it offers 120hz and 3D, but because of the additional features it comes with. The Asus 120hz/3D monitor offers quite similar competitive features. Although I'm not sure if the Asus also has Picture by Picture option and ability to change aspect ratio or screen size which the BenQ offers. Both monitors come with multiple ports: hdmi, dvi, vga. Both of them are LED backlit, have very versatile adjustment capabilities. I'm not sure about the specifics with the Asus, but I know the BenQ has 13cm of height adjustment, 45 degree left or right swivel. Both monitors have abilities to switch from portrait to landscape (90 degree swivel). Both monitors would be great picks! I personally think the AW is a bit outdated as it doesn't offer as much as the newer versions. Nothing against AW products, cause I think their cool, but always thought they're less practical then the rest, cause you always seem to need to pay a premium just for the brand than actual output.
