I don't do much FPS games unless it is on my vive pro. So I don't think 144hz is a must for me. I do sit roughly 24 inches from the monitor. My current monitor a cheapy 1440P 60hz Acer. So i'm thinking something like this might be good for me? https://www.microcenter.com/product...00hz-hdmi-dp-g-sync-curved-gaming-led-monitor

But IDK about it not being 16:9 or how old school anime will look on it. And older games.

How about this one? https://www.microcenter.com/product...-434-4k-uxga-120hz-hdmi-dp-curved-led-monitor

You're worried about not being 16:9 on the normal ultra-wide, so your alternative is a super ultra-wide? Whaaa lol. I still think 27" 1440p is the best for pixel density/usability personally, and I would personally stick with 1440p 144hz+ 27". If you play older games/mostly watch standard 16:9 content, I think you'll find the ultrawides a bit annoying. If you watch lots of 21:9 movies, play more modern games/games that support the res, go for the Asus.

That Samsung is just too much lol. I think it'd be great for productivity...? That's about it for me! But to each their own.

I'm on 34" ultrawide and I think it's pretty nice.

For 16:9 content on the UW, the image will be similar size to a 27" monitor but with black bars on the side. It's not too bad, but you do lose the larger size of the screen.

Many games will work with UW aspect ratio, but it may depend how old they are. If you consider HL2 or L4D old, games like that work nicely. It will depend on the engine but I find a lot of games work fine.

32" 4k seems like the way to go to me. I don't get the ultrawide thing. With a 32" 4k you have 4 corners to use. The ultrawide is like a poor compromise between having 1& 2 monitors that doesn't really make sense. In my opinion.

Looks like a good choice. I have a 34" LG UW as well, and I really like it.

Besides the refresh rate. It seems it doesn't beat the LG anywhere else.

Is the MSI better for gaming?

I haven’t seen the LG so I can’t comment on that. If you are happy with the LG I think that’s great and you should stay put.

LG 75Hz doesn’t traditionally run at 75Hz on Nvidia cards without frame skipping, but it’s monitor specific, does yours work at 75Hz outside of Freesync? If not you’d be limited to 60Hz outside of AMD freesync. That’s be a lynchpin for me.

The MSI works at 100hz on Nvidia cards for sure as a bullet point.

Okay, just tried to play fallout 4 and am not liking this requiring a mod/work around.

I'm not liking ultrawide at all. So far Fallout 4 requires modding for it, Kenshi looks fine on it, but it seems like clicking on objects is off centered now.

Try this for the easy button

And this for lots of info per game on how to set them up. Most new titles just work, some old titles require a little finagling.

However, there is no info on Kenshi?

Remember worst case you can just run the game at 2560x1440 and have a normal 16x9 screen. So then you're no worse off than a standard 27" 16x9 monitor.

I found that lowering my resolution to normal 1440P fixes the problem for fallout 4, but the image gets stretched to fill the whole monitor. I might return this monitor and get something that isn't ultrawide.

That’s fixed by changing the panel scaling setting in the monitor GUI

You’re about to make a big mistake going back to a 27” because you aren’t doing even a modicum of research.

You already HAVE a 27” monitor, if you set it up right and you have a 34” when the game supports it and most new games do!

The experience on a game that supports both 3440x1440 and 2560x1440 is always better on the ultra-wide in my experience. Like i said previously if it doesn’t support ultrawide then you just use 2560x1440 with no monitor scaling and you have a standard 27” experience. Nothing lost, but lots of potential to gain!

In your opinion. Would you go with the ultrawide I have now, or return it for this? https://www.microcenter.com/product/477072/et430k-43-4k-uhd-60hz-hdmi-dp-led-monitor

I can’t advise you on that preference

I can tell you that I personally tried a 37” 16x9 and felt it was too big for desk use... but I know people on this forum use up to 50” for desk use and love it. So that’s a subjective criteria.

30” or 32” 16x9 is about my subjective limit/preference.

Personally, I like ultrawide better. While not all games work perfectly, I find that most work great out of box, and for others you just have to edit some settings or whatnot to get them working.

I had a 40" 4K TV before on a second rig. It was nice too, I won't lie, I had fun with it. I recently swapped it for a 55" TV, but it's too big for PC use (I use it now for PS4 and movies).

For me, I enjoy the high refresh much more, so the ultrawide is the better option. 4K is typically limited to 60Hz, and even with a good GPU you are unlikely to get above 60fps anyway (assuming you had one of the few high refresh 4K panels).

But it is up to you. Some people like 16x9 more, or are okay with 60Hz, or want to use for other reasons (for example, console gaming, video, etc.). It is your choice.

After playing around with both I decided to keep the LG ultrawide. 1440P @75hz seems like a sweet spot for what my system can handle in every game I play.

btw; I tried all the setting for the monitor, and Nvidia control to not stretch fallout 4. But it still stretches across the screen....

Awesome. I'm sure you'll enjoy the purchase once you find how to tweak it.

These are the settings to get games not to stretch:

I tried that, but I did find a sweet way to get full screen ultra wide. I used geoforce experience to launch the game. I'm fairly certain the image isn't stretched either.
