From 1-11 which is the best a lot of people say FF3 was the best. I want to know cause I wanna play it.

if by FF3 you mean ff6j then i concur, although i can concede 7 being up there too.

The Final Fantasy III released on the Super Nintendo is actually Final Fantasy VI in Japan, but since it was the third Final Fantasy released here, you get the point.

The PSX remake also didn't have as many edits and censored things, and had CG cutscenes.

As for me, Final Fantasy VI is my favorite.

FF: Adventure :D

But keeping with the 1-11, I vote #III.

FF3/FF6 for me, with 8 being the one to avoid like the plague. i liked 7, but i didn't think it was as good as everybody says it is. i think it's just that 7 was the first FF game for a lot of people who had never been into video games before the original PSX.

I have a lack of experience with final fantasy. I've played 7, 8, and the 11 mmo. 7 is definitely my favorite.

FF:Tactics was the win... I need to play it again, Also I need to get vangrant story for my collection... As well as the others I forget to buy... I forgot to go back and buy my 1+2 PS1 copy for 5 bucks after I quit compusa... I am a sad panda now =( It was an orginal package too..

for some reason, i always liked mystic quest the best. that and ff2 were my favorites.

ff2 was just amazing. ya ff3 was a much bigger game, but ff2 holds a place in my heart..

FF2 (4), FF3 (6) and FF7 are the only one's I own. But arguably, they were all the tops. I liked FFX for the most part, almost bought a PS2 just for it.

Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy X are my favorites mainly because they have the strongest stories of all of the series. I liked Final Fantasy VII but I think its story just bombed near the end, its good but way overhyped. I mean sephiroth is such a pussy, Kefka is far more ruthless and evil then he was.

Worse has to be either Final Fantasy Mystic Quest or Final Fantasy VIII thanks to its horrible battle system and premature ending of the story.

It wasnt premature IMO.. it was way too long.. they should have ended it when you kill adel.. after that they were like.. oh yeah theres one more boss that we forgot to tell you about.. now you gotta go kill her. FF8 has a nice story before ultemicia, that and it has the best boss theme in any FF.

Id say the worst is 9.. kiddies running around being sponsored by coke?.. it was a turnoff for me.

Coke was only in the commercial, never in the game. As for the actualy gameplay it was awsome, the closest we got to the original Final Fantasy titles on the newer series. Sure the SD was a change of pace but the story and gameplay rocked in Final Fantasy IX.

I agree with you on Final Fantasy VIII, reason I said that the story ended premature was because after you save riona it just felt like there was nothing left to do...

gee, thanks for ruining the story of VIII for me. lol, j/k. i quit after starting disc 2 because i hated the game so much. i doubt i'll be going back to finish it any time soon.

In the words of Penny Arcade, Theres a statute of limitations on this shit...

FF6 (FF3 US) for sure...probably the highest quality game of all time.
FFIX was pretty awesome too.
FFVII always has a place in my heart.

I've always had a soft spot for FF2, so I think that would be my favorite. It is followed closely (to the point of being almost tied) by FF3, with FF7 trailing behind that. I stopped at FF8, because it was so terrible. I couldn't get more than four or five hours into it.

Heh. 8 was the first in the series that said to me...yea...there can be a bad final fantasy. Looked pretty though.

Amercian FF2 and FF7

I am with many in this thread saying that FFVI was the best FF game made (of course it's subjective). I am surprised by the lack of people saying; "OMG FF7 4 lyfe yo, gogoogogg Sephiroth so cool omg, yeah best game evaaar!" FF7 was alright, and probably the most widly played FF game, but not even close to being the best.

FF3(FF6-JP) was my fav. I still play it on emu once in a while.
FF2Advance is pretty good update with better gfx of the original on GBA

Final Fantasy the original will always be my fav.

the FF Advanced looks pretty good I've only checked it out alittle.

BTW: I lothe FF7 sometimes cause I get called Mako Reactor all the time. :(

FFVI is way overrated. The huge cast of characters, while nice, ultimately harms the plot, as they are all given like 40 minutes of development. They are all flat and boring: the confused young girl, the general who doubts her actions, the mysterious ninja, the quirky old man, the all-brawn no-brains warrior, the noble night, yadda yadda yadda. It's also too easy to get way overpowered: Genji Glove + Offering, Economizer + Magic Box. Edgar and Sabin are overpowered in that they can both eventually do 9999 damage every round for free.

However, I will give it that it has some fantastic lines: "I'm not Mr. Thou!!" "Wait he says, what do I look like, a waiter?" "Run run, or you'll be well done!" I know there are more that I can't think of.

I'm going to to say it's a tie between 4 and 7, because in both the plot is interesting and well-streamlined. FFVI meanders a lot, like the whole bit with the train and the opera. It's cool, but I think that the lack of focus on the plot hurts it. FFIV and FFVII have their little side-bits, but they always tie in with the plot as a whole.

Although, FFV is close behind. I really like that game because it dares to be dark and difficult, and the combat system is pretty interesting with the whole class/ability thing. You can come up with a lot of really cool combinations.

If anybody reading this has never played 5, you owe it to yourself to do so.

edit: also on the FF5, there are two optional bosses akin to the weapons in 7. I've never beaten them, they are far harder than Weapon, which is a cool additional challenge.

FF7 & FFT

If you haven't played Final Fantasy Tactics, it is an utterly amazing game. I need to replay it again. I beat it once long ago and have been going back through it again but stopped mid last year. It's a PS1 game so it's cheap if you're into the FF series.

3. Final Fantasy VII
2. Final Fantasy VI
1. Final Fantasy IV (this is purely based on nostalgia for me though)

I'd say the ones to avoid are Final Fantasy XI if you are afraid of a real MMORPG (no Wow players here) and Final Fantasy V (I was bored the entire time).

FFXI was ok.. but Good lord, it was the GRIND OF ALL GRINDS!

Basicly thats almost all you did.

FF3 (6) is my favorite game of all time. Best story, best characters and best skills IMO. FF2 (4) is another one of my favorites. I think it would be near impossible for a new FF to top these two.

Ok, I'll be the first to say this one.

My favorite is FF1, because it was the first time that I realized what a game can be, not to mention the music was AMAZING. Oh and you grow up in the middle of the game. Tell me of any game from that era that did something like that.

I get all the numbers mixed up. Was FF V the first one with jobs? You had to find the crystals (hehe joking) but In the beginning your in a forest and you see a meteor crash and you hop on a chochobo?

wow, I guess I am the only one who likes ff8 better than the rest (and I played 7 and 6). I also liked ffx, but was pissed off about x-2.. because of the whole having to whistle thing to see the real ending.. I mean no one would ever figure that out without a gameguide or something.

Yeah that's the one.

Damn... I have to post cuz I played all of them except for FFX (and X-2, but that dosen't count does it?)

FF1 - OMG, This game totally rocks!!! Left my NES on for approx 3 monts while me and my brother beat the game... with every possible combination EXCEPT 4 White mages. 10 out of 10
FF2J - Quirky game where you gain skills by beating up enemies (or your other characters) Haven't beat it yet, but kinda fun. 6 out of 10
FF3J - First title to introduce Jobs into the Final Fantasy Series. I likey, 7 out of 10 stars
FF4J/FF2 - Couldn't get into this title for some reason. Other people claim this is the best game of the series... meh. 4 out of 10
FF5 - Jobs again, got more fun out of this game than FF4J/FF2 but the end boss WAS A F***ING TREE!!!! Still, scores on gameplay 8 out of 10
FF6J/FF3 - This game and FF1 are the games I break out to show people what RPG's used to be, and how fun they were. Complex story, wonderful cast of characters, and a 22 minute ending movie, ON A CART!!! 10 out of 10
FF7 - I got this on PC, and furthest i got was to cosmo canyon then lost interest. Still, best of genre for PS1 games, 8 out of 10
FF8 - Bleh, boring. Would much rather poke at my brain with a ball point pen then play this game again. 2 out of 10
FF9 - Really tried to get inot this one, but extenuating circumstaces (read LIFE) got in the way. Was fun from what I played, 6 out of 10
FFX - No comment
FFXI - HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE PLAY THIS GAME!!?!?!?? Horrible!!! -147 out of 10

Nope, FF3JP was the first with jobs, I believe it was never released in the US, but there are translated roms all over the place.

FF4 is definately my all time favorite, had the most character development of any game period, the most sacrifice and the plot always stays on course, surprise after surprise until the end. Also it was the last FF (i believe) to actually give different spells casting times. Firaga takes a hella lot longer than Fire to cast, and Meteo takes forever. I HATED how in FF6 every spell took the same amount of time as a melee attack to cast. Cure? Holy? Meteor? Blech.

Also I have to defend FF8, some of the prettiest FMV's, the relationship between the main characters is moving and it has 3 of the most captivating moments in all the final fantasy games. The assassination, the garden vs garden battle, and I can't for the life of me remember what the other one was...

Ah right, forgot about FF3 and the jobs. I have the rom, just have never played it. I forgot about the casting delay in 4 but that is an excellent point, because it forces you to consider which spell to use: Meteo takes forever, is it really worth casting when you could cast Fire 3 twice in that time? (Or however long it was, I haven't played that game in forever. I want to pick up the gba version, though I imagine they took out the porno mag :D ).

Its good because kefka tries to destroy the world... and succeeds. Plus the extra characters dont really tie into the story.. i mean cmon.. crazed useless boy naed gau? he was only there to help out the party for one sequence.
