Hey guys, I just got my 6800gt last night and I'm using the 61.77 drivers from nvidia's website. I was playing ut2k4 today and the performance is excellent, but when I play cs:source i notice little improvement over my 9700pro, if any. Are there any other better drivers that I could use? Or is it just becasue source is so cpu limited? I'm not really used to the nvidia drivers yet (this is my first nvidia card), thanks for the help :)

I've heard from alot of 6800 GT/ Ultra owners that the 66.81 drivers worked best for them, might want to check those out and the 65.73 drivers, and see whats best for you.

SaViOr

CS:S is CPU limited at all times. Raise your res to 1600x1200 and use 4 or 8xAF, you'll see the difference ;)

You did run driver cleaner and removed all your ATi drivers, right?

66.70 or 66.72 were the to fastest 66.81 isnt to bad ether one of the guys here did a bench of all the drivers try searching the boards ^.~ theres even a neat graph thay realy need to sticky that thread

edit found it
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=813910

and Omega has ne NV drivers based on the 66.70 set

65.73 have best image quality and are MUCH faster then your 61.77's.

66.51 have the speed edge on 65.73 but somewhat worse Image Qualty.
All other sets simply look to bad to use.

your Doom3 numbers seem off i get better then that @ 1280x1024 in timedemo 1

Well thanks for the suggestions guys but now I'm even more confused :p According to the graph in the other thread, the 66.70 drivers are the fastest, so I assume I should use those? Or not?

Some users have complained of visual glitches with driversets after 66.51, but you can try playing around with em. Honestly you really don't need to install anything other than 61.77 right now... You are seeing no improvement from your 9700PRO because you are playing at too low resolution aa/af.

Well I just ran some source benchmarks with the 61.77's and here are my results:

1024, 4xaa 8xaf : 102.28 fps
1280, " " : 96.86 fps
1600, " " : 75.45

1024, no aa or af: 106.14
1280, " : 105.00
1600, " : 96.92

So it seems like I am mostly cpu limited, since at 1024 i only lose 4 fps turning on 4xaa and 8xaf. I want to play at 1024 since that's what I'm used to and I can aim best at 1024. I'll try turning up settings to 4xaa and 8xaf in game to see how it plays

So I guess I should stick with teh 61.77's? Because I think im mostly cpu limited and I'm guessing they are the most stable drivers?

I've bounced back and forth between a bunch of drivers and I think the best overall are the 65.73.

I have to say that I think the 66.51's are definitely the best. I don't notice too much of an image quality dif, and the speed is way better. For some reason its pretty dratic with my setup: around 8500 '03 marks with the 61.77, and around 12100 with the 6651 drivers. I think its some kind of compatibility issue or something.

Also, the 66.51's have tons of profiles to set. THe later ones and some earlier ones dont have and wont let you add a far cry profile.

I was looking at that graph and I noticed some of them say WHQL next to them, what does that mean?

Im using the 66.51s here, do get some gfx anomalies in CSS like shooting near trees makes them shake and turn white. Best overall seem to be the 65.73s.
