I'm looking for a regular (high-end?) consumer router that has easy-to-use QoS settings. I've never owned one before, but I'm thinking one of those gaming routers do this? I myself use pfSense, but that is not an option.

I have a friend who wants something for his broadband connection that will have the ability to limit a PS3 or Xbox from taking ALL the bandwidth, or at least give it a lower priority below everything else using the Internet.

DD-WRT can do this fine. You can just get hardware for it that is rather beefy, or a higher end Buffalo model (They have a branded DD-WRT.)

You cant shape inbound traffic, is that what you're trying to accomplish?

Most of the better Netgear units have fantastic pre-programmed QOS.

D-link's QOS wasn't bad back in the day, but PFsense or anything that gives you manual control and a smart IT guy can out-tweak a preprogrammed router.

mikrotik qos is really good but the cpu on entry level models can't cut it with more than 20Mbps. If you can find a 750G you are set, or don't mind spending $100 for the rb2011.
