I'm looking at newegg refurbs...found an fx5200 (eh, I know) a radeon 9600, a geforce4 mx440, geforce 4 mx4000, and a radeon 9250 and a fx5500. I know some are obviously better than others, but it's for gaming on slightly older games..anyone care to rank these for me? that'd be great

Well I've got an ATI but actually I'd recommend an Nvidia...FX series....Nothing less...Hell if you can get that 5500 then go for it, but to be honest I've got a 5200 sitting around and that ran pretty well on the older games

In order from best to worst:
Radeon 9600
Radeon 9250
FX5500
FX5200
MX440
MX4000

The best one is a 9600 by far, and make sure it has 128-bit memory.

out of those, the 9600. But you can find ti4000 series all over the place that cheap. Those are nice cards even today.

Go with the Radeon 9600. None of the other cards are nearly as good, and especially when you're using DX9 features.

Ehh, switch the 5500 and the 9250. FX's aren't all shit... I beat doom3 and hl2 on my 5200. The 5200 outperforms the supposed ati competition anyway.

You can probably pick up a 5600 Ultra, and old TI series nVidia card, or a plain 9600 for around $50 used here on the forums. That would be your best bet.

I'm going to agree with
9600
5500
9250
5200
MX4000/440

The MX440 and MX4000 are the same card. They basically rnamed the MX440 the MX4000 for release with the FX line.

My younger bro has a 9600 and is still able to play current games, no eye candy or anything but it's still probably the best bet if you want to buy new. With $50 you might want to check ebay for used 9500 pro's as they will outperform even 9600 Pros. I swapped out my 6800GT with my 9500 Pro the other day to do some testing and was able to play UT2004 @ 1920x1200 resolution (no AA or AF) with max settings and still had a good frame rate.
