I have Logitech Z-5500, and would like to have 5.1 digital sound. what cable do I need to buy? since the mac doesnt support a toslink optical, I need a digital cable with a 3.5mm plug on 1 end and a standard coax on the other side to plug into the logitech?

The MBP has toslink output via the headphone jack. http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10229&cs_id=1022902&p_id=1558&seq=1&format=2

Keep in mind this will give you 5.1 for movies, but not games.

That's awesome! I didn't know that cable existed. I currently use my Macbook with my Z-5500s, and I use a standard cable with the following adapter. This would be a more elegant solution.

If you're using Z-5500s, your audio system needs a lot more help than just a toslink cable or adapter. Ideally, a USB DAC leading into an amp leading into either better speakers or good quality headphones.

But at minimum, plugging a toslink cable into the audio out jack is better than not doing so.
