My WiFi struggles to keep a good connection with my XBox One X so ... I figured I'd just go wired:

What are the best 4 or 5 port Ethernet hubs in 2018 with USB 3.0 speeds or better? My PC is wired Ethernet.

I think I just need a good Ethernet slitter so I can go back & forth between my PC & Xbox & PS4 but, I'll need to future proof as much as possible for the Z390 system. There are new products coming out with better WiFi & Bluetooth 5.
What would work well with a new Intel Z390 motherboard with: "Onboard Intel CNVi 802.11ac 2x2 Wave 2 Wi-Fi"???

I'm unclear if these are wise options for me or not:

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ethernet switch, not hub. While performing much the same task, the two are different and should not be confused. Though you'd be hard-pressed to find a hub these days.

Not sure why you're injecting USB or the PC's WiFi into the matter. Switches are stand-alone devices, and not reliant on any interface on the PC.

Is there some reason you can't simply use the switch built into your router/AP? Even with a new switch, you'll want to connect it to the router so the PC and other wired devices can connect to the Internet over the wire.

a hub? a hub? Comptia spends ten hours talking about how we don't use hubs anymore, and the whole time I'm thinking who the hell even uses the word hub, ever? Thanks for confirming Comptia's 1970s info.

Anyways

"Onboard Intel CNVi 802.11ac 2x2 Wave 2 Wi-Fi" is, as the name implies, a WiFi spec, so plugging in any ethernet cable to that NIC will have no effect on what WiFi radio is built in to the motherboard -- you aren't using it. And if you decided to go WiFi in the future on that motherboard, the switch you buy wouldn't have any impact, you'd be bypassing it and connecting to the router/AP directly.

Where is the other end of your PC's ethernet cable plugged in to? Are there any available ports on *that* device? Plug your XBox in to that.

Got it ... I had to talk to my local computer shop guy since I wasn't sure what I needed. Yeah, I'd never had a "hub" before, I just needed an Ethernet switch and a few new CAT 6 cables to go with. I was mixing up some of my WiFi stuff in my OP since I wasn't sure what I needed yet.

I've got the below hooked up & working fine now.

Came in here to see actual hub recommendations in 2018 and was sorely disappointed the OP meant a switch. There are many cases in the industrial market where having a hub is extremely valuable for troubleshooting and development for Ethernet IP software.

I think you can get them at CompUSA! <lol>

That's what port mirroring is for. Any decent managed switch aimed at SMB and up should support it.
