I personally will only read and surf in resolution 1920x1080 HiDPI (mac osx), no game or movie.

Ok, why the hell do you want such a small size display? If you are only using 1080p, why do you want 4K?

While it's true that OS X handles scaling better than Windows, unless you have a very close viewing distance 4K at 24" is kind of overkill.

The prices for a screen that small are also flat out crazy. Do you not have space for a larger panel? Why 24"?

He want's to use it as a "retina display" to get sharp nice looking text and he thinks that 24" inch is the best choice since 1080p displays are usually that size.
Why not just go for 32", text will not look much less sharp then on a 24" at 200% scaling, and you get the choice of using 150% scaling which gives you a work res of 1440p where text will still be sharp and nice looking.

Yeah I second this. Especially for just reading, if the text is gonna be pretty much the same size. More comfortable IMO and less scrolling.

Edit: Although the Qnix I would do perfect pixel from newegg/ebay.

Dell, just because of their awesome customer support. The monitors are mostly the same, except for their panel types.

In this case, I'm inclined to agree. The Samsung and Asus are using Samsung panels that are native 8bit, wheres the LG, Philips, and Dell are 10bit (8bit + FRC). Among those 3, Dell probably would have the best support.

i have 2 4k monitors. dell p2415q, i use windows 10 scaling. sometimes i think maybe i should had got the 27in version. but different from what most people say, i think that the smallest the size the monitor and higher the resolution, the more you get the effect of mac retina display tech. and thats why i got these 2 monitors! text looks beautiful, i have an iphone 6s and everytime i am using it i feel like using my computer. i would look first at a 10bit panel, and lg makes great monitors panels also...
