BenQ XL2720Z - Trailing/Judder Issues?

Hey guys,

I have been noticing a lot of trailing/judder/whatever-you-call-it issues with my BenQ XL2720Z. Here's an example:

See the white boxes? See the black trail the monitor leaves behind when I move the cursor around causing the UI to move along with it?

This happens everywhere on screen, in games on PC and PS4, and in movies too. I want to know if this is normal because it's kinda annoying. It's very noticeable in some areas and frustrating to experience as I thought the monitor was free from all of these issues - being a super fast panel and all that.

I have not noticed this on TitanFall but I guess since it runs on 120fps, this is far less noticeable.

I have the AMA on High and Instant Mode on ON. I don't use Blur Reduction.

I do not have the monitor, but tftCentral's review seems to agree with what you are seeing: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_xl2720z.htm

Notice on the (150-255-150) transition that the overshoot goes too dark and takes a while to correct itself. This matches your situation with a bright white box going to a half-bright background. They suggested having AMA on High and having the refresh rate as high as possible.

Running the screen at the maximum 144Hz refresh rate {...} helping to reduce the appearance of overshoot somewhat.

Thanks!

I guess it's an 'issue' with the monitor itself. Damn it. It's kinda annoying when you notice and kind of pisses me off. :(

No monitor is perfect dude.

Although I never noticed it when playing but all the games I tested my rig could push max FPS.

Yup, was just clarifying if it was an issue with my particular set. I tested a movie on an Asus gaming monitor I have and I noticed the same overshooting there as well - I guess I am just noticing it because it's a new monitor. :D

It's not much of a problem for PC gaming - most games run smoothly on mine and above 60fps. But for PS4, which handicapped to 30fps most of the time, it's quite noticeable. Especially in Destiny where there is a lot of grey-dark areas.
