Benq BL3200PT (32" 1440p)

no, one country more north :)

I guess.....hhmmmm.....BELGIUM! ;)

But you did buy it from amazon.fr so, like mine your BenQ comes from french stocks.
So it looks like BenQ France is the culprit and not Amazon nor LDLC.

I have never seen Amazon or LDLC selling refurbished hardware as new product, never.

BenQ we now know what you are doing...

We call it Northern Greece these days. Just as corrupt as the southern Greek isles. Just as poorly governed (these days by a fascist government, which is just as bad as the socialists up until a year ago).

We don't have our own Amazon, but the French, German and UK stores offer the same free shipping as they do to their own natives, so we get to choose from all three :)

Anyway, the BenQ replacement was shipped from Holland, BenQ.nl.

Wow ... just read your posts and that's some bad news ... I'm french too, and the monitor was bought on amazon.

The first one (coming directly from amazon) didn't have any scratch but had flicker and the second one (benQ's RMA, coming from netherlands too) was brand new. Looks like i just got lucky ...

I'm shocked to read that about LDLC too, they're generally flawless concerning their products

Looks like benQ took a bad backlash with this problem and they weren't expecting such a big number of returns, thus explaining your lack of "luck". The only thing i can think of is that they send everything they have left in stock, whatever the condition of the monitor ... (which is as bad, if not worse, than saying that they don't have any stock left ... if that's the case)

I contacted them right away. No reply. I again sent a mail 3 days later. No reply. Seems they're just going to ignore this and pretend I don't exist. Way to go BenQ

Oh great. Just to add to the mess this already is... Just watched my new bluray from Conquest of the Skies, and at about 6:05 into episode one, it shows a rought rock surface with a dragonfly imprint.

Guess what. Flicker galore. My original monitor from early 2014 didn't flicker, but this replacement from october 2014 does. Terrific.

@Iserlohn & @propergol
Unfortunately BenQ has a history of sending old/refurb displays in exchange for your new ones. Had it happen to me too...

I had Benq FP241W (800€ back then) which arrived with EXTREME backlight leakage (No Idea how it was approved during QA like that...Prolly by some blind guy.)

I RMAed it a couple of days later and Benq did send some dude to pick up my display. The guys also brought me a package in exchange, which I assumed had a new display in it. He didn't want to stay for me to check if the new display was ok.
After I unpacked it, it turned out to be a refurbished/used unit which smelled like cigarettes and the silver bezel was all yellow from from smoke...
I called/emailed them about it, but the answer was that everything was in accordance to their RMA standards and that I have to deal with it..
Well at least the display itself didnt have flaws this time around (except greasy fingerprints all over it and yellow strains on the bezel...).

I also had Benq BL3200PT which arrived with 1 dead subpixel and with a group of dark spots on the left display side (an area of ca. 2,5cm/1inch was affected):

Knowing how "great" BenQs is at RMA I decided not to go through with RMA-process and sent the display right back to the reseller and got my money back. (2Wo Widerrufsrecht :))

Got my BL3200PT delivered yesterday. Manufacture date of September. Did some spot checking with Origin, Google Earth and couple other tests. Played some BF4 and Dragon Age for a hour or so. Thus far have noticed no flickering. Panel looks good, seeing no easily noticeable anomalies such as dead/stuck pixels, BL bleed and what not. Thus far, very pleased with the monitor, but I'll keep an eye out for any weird behavior.

Mine came in from Newegg last week. Also a September build. I should check it more thoroughly for dead or stuck pixels, but none that I've found so far. No flickering or back light bleeding issues. I've mostly used it for desktop use, with a few hours of TF2 as well. I'm really liking it, the colors are great, and the DPI feels just right at this size & resolution.

I've got a BL3200 that I bought end of dec 2014 and its a sept 2014 manufactured device.
I'd not seen any flashing in normal work use and play a few games @ 1440p (bf3, shadows of mordor, far cry 4).
Then last week I started to see the white flashing in FC4. A lot.
Its really strange because I progressed approx 1/2 way through FC4 before I saw a single flash.
It went from no flashing to a lot - its not possible I simply didnt notice before, and its not like the terrain/colour content etc changed in the game - so I am wondering if this flashing is something that can develop over time?
I can't think of any that changed in my setup that would have masked/exposed this issue.
I'm beginning to think that this monitor is going to have to go back to Amazon UK as faulty in the hope that they can replace it with a later panel with no flash.
Not sure I'll take my chances with Benq customer services...

Did BenQ ever fix the flickering problem with this monitor with a firmware update, are the newer panels fixed, or do they all flicker?

No problem. I know it can be very time consuming to go back and look for info in a thread this large. Luckily I remembered people talking about BenQ recognizing and addressing the issue.

Yeh, thanks.. Well that is one problem that stopped my buying this screen fixed, other problem is the input lag for gaming...

How is the input lag with FPS games + Vsync turned on? Probably best to try it and see for myself!

Anyone tell me about the input lag on this?

I have a TV rated 30-40ms depending on review... That is ok for some games but not good for aiming on some FPS games when using Vsync.. Too slow for CS:GO even without Vsync.

I have a monitor which is rated 10-20ms (most specific review I could find)... The monitor is basically fine for everything including CS:GO etc. (could be better but it is decent enough)

The only reason I would return this monitor, other than usual things such as dead pix, BLB etc. would be the input lag.... TFTcentral says 23ms.... other sites say 28-31ms How is it for FPS games?

About to pull the trigger on the Benq instead of getting the Asus MG 144hz IPS that is out soon, mainly due to contrast ratio, blacks and no IPS glow. Due to the size and weight it will be a pain to return, nowhere I can demo it so I hope it is just about acceptable eg. faster than my TV and around the same as my current monitor (NEC 20WGX2 rated at 10-20ms lag on TFTCentral)

Performs the same as any other monitor with over a frame of input lag, but it has the disadvantage of awful pixel response. I owned it for about a month before returning it; the ghosting is quite noticeable vs competing IPS panels.

In short: it's not really ideal for CS:GO.

I really doubt you'll like it.

The BenQ has a slightly thicker matte coating than the modicum of IPS/PLS panels I've used. You're never free of glow; the monitor is so big that, unless seated from a distance of 120 cm+, you'll experience VA glow/cone. Not only that, but you'll also notice color become desaturated near the edges because of poor viewing angles, again, unless seated away from a distance of 120 cm+.

Thanks for reply, hmm yes my friend who has the Benq screen says I probably won't be happy with it as I use Vsync for most games except online FPS games. Damn that is annoying if this monitor had low lag I would buy it and there is nothing else similar coming out!!

Well the ASUS PB328Q is coming, but don't have high expectations.

Nice... did not find this before in my research, its annoying how they don't put input lag in the specs, have to wait for a review, more waiting!

Do you know the release date or any more info?

Asus do seem to be good at making low input lag screens so it is possible, but it is listed as a "professional" screen so maybe not.

Think I will wait for the Asus PB328Q and the Asus MG 27" 144hz screen reviews and if neither of those are good I will give up waiting and buy a cheap 1440p IPS!

I'm stuck between this monitor and the Samsung S32D850T. If I were to buy either of those now from amazon.com do you think in both cases the flickering issue would be solved? Do you find the Samsung has and advantage over the Benq or do you like the Benq better? Could it be said that both are practically the same? I have had good experiences with Samsung HDTVs so I would rather stay with Samsung but if buying the Benq is the better alternative I'd do it.

Being that either the Benq and the Samsung have VA panels and my Samsung HDTVs have VA panels as well, am I to experience the same level of anti glossy coating?

Thanks a lot for your responses!

From what I read (no actual experience) the Benq is slightly better, mainly the input lag is a bit better (though still not great) which makes a big difference when gaming, I am waiting for the Asus PB328Q hoping that it might have better input lag!

Maybe it could be said that the Benq one is a "safer" bet than the new ones to come (Asus) because now the Benq models should be on their revised versions...

Or the Asus might not need new revisions as they may have fixed the flickering problem, I guess they would know about it / fix it probably, although I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

Argh I need the Asus one to come out asap so I can decide whether to get that or just get a Dell U2515H. I don't want to buy the U2515h then the Asus comes out a month later with the Benq panel and low input lag!! Have a collection of low input lag requiring games here that need to be played and cannot wait much longer!! To be honest I doubt the Asus screen will be much lower lag than the BenQ screen but will wait and see.

I may be wrong, so please double check earlier on this thread, but I think the Samsung has PWM below 20% brightness.

my experience:
I have an bl3200 of november 2014
it seems do not have fliker
but it fails on this test:http://www.gdargaud.net/Hack/DeadPixel/MagentaGreen.html
and if connected with hdmi there are various random lines flashing on white screens..
best wieving result on dvi-d but still faulty on magenta test
obviously magenta test go ok if you set a lower resolution than 2056/1440 but .. you know
so no need to buy this monitor..

Got an OCT 2014 unit from Coolblue.be for €549.

Screen is connected by DVI to a hackintosh (GTX 260).

All the cables are really quite short if you're computer is set on the ground.

Changed the picture setting to Standard, the brightness to 28 and gamma to level 1 and the screen looks beautiful.

I tried all the tests and Google Earth pages out here and there's no flicker on my unit.
There's is some serious vertical banding when you're using a uniform grey background.
But in normal use the bands are not visible.

Coming from a Sony E500 crt this lcd is really huge. In the day I paid almost €1100 for the Sony so for €549 this lcd is a real steal.

thanks drramtop, good to know..
I noticed that this panel is not a true 10bit monitor but an 8bit+frc..
and that is not easy at all to the eyes..
I was wondering if there is a way to have it working at 8 bit only, avoiding the frc..

I just noticed the Asus PB328Q is actually an IPS screen not VA.

32" 1440p IPS screen... So not the same as the Benq etc.

Anyone by any slight chance able to compare the BL3200PT to a NEC 20wgx2, Eizo foris with "turbo 240" switched on or a Sony 40HX723 TV? It would need to be lower than the TV and if it is the same as the NEC or the eizo with "turbo 240" (turbo 240 has more input lag but was still ok)

PB328Q utilises an VA panel. There are no 2560x1440 32" IPS panels in production.

Thats strange, When I posted that I had looked at the Asus UK website and it was listed as AH-IPS, I looked again now and it says VA.

Asus if you are reading this PLEASE make the input lag good.

did any1 get this screen recently? if so, do/did you still have the banding problem? if not, what is the manufacture date please?

I ordered it from Amazon Warehouse a few weeks back, and returned it. There was no banding problem, but the date was September 2014!

I just bought this monitor from amazon.com and the manufacture date is October, 2014. Could you briefly explain me what tests do you want me to do?

check this post

open mspaint, maximize the window, fill it with grey color, and try to move the window around. if you see a vertical "band" roughly where the arrows point in those screenshots, the problem is still there.

Ok got it. I'm in the office right now but when I get home I'm going to post the results. Funny thing I did this test with my good-old U2410 monitor and it showed an horrible big large band on the right side. I've had this monitor since 2010 and this is the first time I've noticed it.

Philips has also released 32 inch model BDM3270QP which uses amva panel. Specs seems the same as Benq BL3200PT.

@insoc123

I also got an OCT 2014 model and there's some vertical banding.
But in NORMAL use you wouldn't notice it. I think IPS glow or death pixels are much worse than some vertical banding.

Just try to set the gamma to 1 and lower the brightness to 25-30 and maybe switch off the AMA fuction if you don't need it (for gaming).

The pre NOV 2014 models also might have flickering, so try out Google Earth and some games and see if your screen is affected. Mine is ok.
