Some of you may find this interesting, or not.

The basic idea is that almost every game put out today regardless of how successful it is will be declared as a failure with sales in the multiple millions being labeled "below expectations"

whose expectations exactly? It is somewhat a trend in the industry to not put out consumer friendly products but instead shareholder friendly products

The overall vision being one that GTA5 has created, with 90 million units sold and 6 billion in revenue. Everything else is "below expectations"

there are failures in terms of critical acclaim and failures in terms of sales...sometimes both...every game is not expected to get GTA5 numbers but there is a threshold that every game needs to reach to be financially solvent...in 2018 Kingdom Come Deliverance is considered a success...same with AC: Odyssey...Shadow of the Tomb Raider was a failure

Of course the expectations of the shareholders / investors. AAA games are no longer being made for the consumer. They are made for the investor, the gamer is just part of the product. We are the chicken at an egg farm basically.
It doesn't matter how much the chicken suffers as long as it lays more eggs.

And GTAV was built off the backs of shitty microtransaction exploitation. We're doomed if we keep letting this stuff slide...
