Becoming a Mod

It's magic.

Follow the rules, help out other members with their questions, become an expert in a particular area (or use expertise you've already gathered), and be a nice guy, and it might just happen to you.

Or buy expensive H2 parts (ie exhausts, lift kits, superchargers, et cetera) and send them directly to Kyle's house.

I would love to be a Moderator!
Just contribute wherever you can. From time to time, we need good members that contribute to the community to step up and become mods. Not all glory and certainly a lot of responsibility, but worth it

sounds like fun. i will focus more on the mobile section dealing with pdas instead of the gaming section :D

It's a "Don't call us, we'll call you" scenerio. The Admins nominate members and vote among themselves. The criteria has been outlined...good posts, helpful, knowledeable, and friendly to other members. When you standout from the rest, the administration take notice ;)

Ahh, but you need to make it look like you're not "running for moderator." ;) Remember that "it's magic" too :p EDIT: Rats, MD gave away the "magic" part. I kept it a secret though :)

tip taken. :)

also...just out of curiosity....is there a mod only section that us lowly members dont know about :p :D

We haved a private forum known as the 'Administrative Office' where issues are discussed and mods bring problems to the attention of the admins. Nothing exciting :)

Yea, the forum was visible once, not readable though, called "Mods Corner"

How do you become an Admin.
Admins come from the pool of moderators, I believe. When the need arises for a new admin, one is chosen from the mods. Though this doesn't happen very often.

heh, being a mod would be cool but takes it's share of discipline so I'd advise anyone gunnin for a leadership position better devote some quality time to the benefit of this website. phew...run on sentences are cool :D

Yes, it's not about postcount or time of service, the admins look for something more. Not bragging, just using my situation as an example: My first post here was on Febuary 22 of this year. Less than two months later, I was selected to be a moderator, and I was still a mere Limp Gawd. It's possible for things to happen very quickly, while other situations take time.

Remember maturity, discipline, and motivation. Go above and beyond the Rules. Stay out of the flame wars and f?nb?y debates. Take the time to explain what and why instead of just giving out the answer or telling someone to use Google when they ask a question or present a problem. Never presume that you are totally right or that they are totally wrong. Keep your sense of humor in what you post and what you read. Heck, if everyone did this, we wouldn't need mods at all and only a handful of admins to keep the server and database going :)

Thats the way i would do it...

Also you have to be 18+ from what i here.

Admins are chosen from the SuperModerator pool by nomination and voting. There have been 9 forum Admins in the past six years and only 4 have been replaced by attrition, so the turnover is rather low.

The average age of the staff would probably be in the mid-30ish range and there hasn't been anyone under the age of 18 in many years.

There are admins for different areas, but the forum has 5 right now. The others are administrative, vBull and Sysops.

The 18+ rule is because of legal issues. Mods may occasionally have to deal with cleaning up inappropriate material and the last thing Kyle needs is someone's mommy upset that the [H] exposed her underaged innocent darling to images of a gaping anus or whatever.

But like Major said, the average age of mods here is considerably older. ;)

First, start a thread asking how. Alternately post in that thread with something relatively useless.

Hey doesn't this topic exactly match the "how do I get a custom title" threads? Uh oh...*hides*

And the average age of the admins even older... :p

*Runs for cover*

The only reason the average age is mid 30ish is because a couple of outliers in the data.

Really, I think it's been covered well of how the choices are made. The way I see it, it's a chance to contribute back to a community that I've benefited so much from over the years.

Age helps. I'm merely 21, but I wasn't equipped mentally to be a moderator at 18, and certainly not at 16. Anyone who is still young enough to know everything shouldn't be a mod :p Unfortunately, judging by the post below mine, the people who use FH&F as a poor man's General Mayhem will probably bring an end to the fun here ;)

"Is it a bird?"
"Is it a plane?"
"No it's Super Mod!"
