Pre-ordered? Hope you can cancel?

Preordered since I have a $100 in EA dollars my brother gave me to buy BF1 for my birthday before it launched. I skipped BF1, but EA has the great game guarantee so really easy to cancel. I may even wait for launch just to see if anything changes since you can refund it up to 24 hours after it launches.

The beta still randomly locks up my computer so worst case I have 72 hours. This definitely didn't leave me itching to upgrade my old PC.

I have about an hour into the game and I think it's "ok" not anywhere near as good as BF4. I too would like a more modern BF game, but not "future" like the way COD has been going. It also seems BF:V is heavily infantry focused, which I'm not a huge fan of. BF has always been about the vehicles. As far as the games performance, no complains there. Ran very smoothly for me, better than I thought on my aging 3770k. I'll probably end up keeping my pre-order.

UI has never been DICE's strong point but between this and BF1 I've got to ask who the fuck approves this type of design?

The UI from 1942 to BF2 left a lot to be desired but could be forgiven because they forged new leaps in online PvP, BC2 saw some welcome improvements, BF3 and BF4 again saw some great improvements, and the new UI introduced in BF1 is beyond fucking atrocious. It is so unintuitive, cumbersome and ugly that whoever designed it deserves to be fired and blacklisted from the industry.

Had a few solid rounds to mess around with things. It feels a lot better than the Alphas but goddamn do I hate the revive system and limited ammo. Forcing squad play is one thing but I engage two enemies and I'm out of ammo. And it's way worse with tanks because you often have to retreat to resupply which likely costs your team that flank or cap. Now I'm fine with it taking some time as this resupply also heals the tank but it takes around 12-15 seconds maybe to refill your rounds from zero even if you don't need a heal. If this was cut to half for the ammo on its own I'd feel better about that but it's only a semi-clever way of making sure that armor has more vulnerability and just because a tank is in a spot doesn't mean he can stay there forever. I can appreciate what they're doing there in terms of creating fluidity and overall I think that works even if I don't much care for it. Also, they didn't need to make the resupply stations so damn fragile that if you run into them you they explode and cause damage.

Sniping has a great feel to it. Going to take some adjusting to hitting targets on the move though, as usual with each new game. I like gun handling with the LMGs but not so much the lighter weapons. Still have a lot of settings to adjust to my comfort level.

Yawn. This feels like they were running backwards. Feel like I am walking through molasses trying to move. Game play is nothing like BF1942, and that's horrible. I liked BFBC2, BF3, and BF4 grew on me. Nothing about this feels like the Dice of old. Too PC with the censoring of the NAZI word, its what the world dealt with back then.

Also, I can't see the freakin enemy. If we are not going to get a continuation of BFBC with a number 3, I am done with BF games. Could have made a killing just putting 1942 on the new engine and calling BF:WW2. I miss doing the crazy shit in BF1942. Like getting on a bombers wings and air dropping right on point. Or just having a plane in the middle of a city map. :)

Yeah when they first started touting the revive and ammo changes I thought it was a pretty neat change that would enforce more teamwork.

In practice it's considerably more annoying than fun and just yields your teammates needing to be on your nuts 24/7 (and actually not completely oblivious or preoccupied). It's legitimately easy to be out of ammo within killing a few people, at which point your options are go hump the leg of the neatest support and pray to god they actually press 3, or spend a minute and a half sprinting to the nearest point half useless because all you have is a handgun. As a bonus, you then need to sit there for 5 seconds grabbing ammo out of a crate while not getting shot in the back by the one dude that's invariably entering the area.

It really doesn't seem particularly more teamwork heavy than previous games but is ultimately 5x as clunky and obnoxious.

Also, I can't see the freakin enemy. ... :)

I can't begin to describe how much of a problem that is for me in this game.

I agree and I realized what I think part of the problem is.

The world is so detailed and has so many intentional movement distractions that people just blend into the scenery.

In the older games, the environments were less detailed and people stood out more in terms of geometry and (the lack of) visual noise.

I also realized that one thing I don't like about BF1 was the more primitive environments and relative lack of complex city levels.

I like what I've played so far in BFV but they are really trying to make it hard to be a hero.

Dislikes after 1 hour of play:

1. Ammo (does this get better when you level up?)

2. Spotting is very hard and if you don't spot an enemy, you seem to put down a warning marker or something.

3. Not sure how the mini map works, but it doesn't seem to make enemies show up when they fire weapons. Not sure though.

The game isn't bad IMO.

But idk if spending full price on the pre order is worth it.

You must be doing something wrong then. I only need to be close enough to a crate to press E (takes less than half a second) and then move to the next objective.

2. Spotting is very hard and if you don't spot an enemy, you seem to put down a warning marker or something.
Forget the tradicional spot, the only one that can spot now is the recon. Now, when you press Q you put down a marker, like you said, that your squad can see.
3. Not sure how the mini map works, but it doesn't seem to make enemies show up when they fire weapons. Not sure though.
This game, like BF1, doesn't show enemies on the mini map when they fire.

Regarding ammo, health, revives. When you play with 3 to 7 friends (1 or 2 full squads) all together in voip (preferably), the problems most of you talk about cease to exist.
In previous titles when playing alone, if you wanted ammo, you had to find a support player that knew what he was doing or else you were practically screwed (or find a support kit, switch and drop ammo, switch again to your kit). But now, guess what, you have ammo crates spread across the map.

Last night I realized the game censors the word "Nazi"

Let that sink in

Rumor is the censor is broken. It is also censoring gibberish, DLC, etc. There was a list posted to reddit I believe of common words that were censored.

Played for about an hour today. My impressions:

- Shooting is floaty. Like BF1. Not very precise, short ranged. Everything is designed for in your face encounters.

- To build on that, weapon reload animations are quicker. The whole game feels sped up.

- Reload animations are janky and look awkward. BF3/4 had the best weapon animations ever. Not sure what happened. A notable drop in quality. It looks more like CoD than BF.

- Limited ammo sucks. You get two mags per primary weapon. You run out very quickly. This means constantly getting ammo. Or running over it, and having your player pull up an ammo bag without you choosing to do so. Disorienting.

- UI is fucking atrocious. Limited info, swipes side to side. This isn't a mobile first website, this is a PC / console game FFS.

- Server browser info is limited, and clearly they want you to use the match maker first.

- Tanks feel sluggish. Which is likely more realistic, but not that fun. Also had my tank slide around a bit like Mario Kart.

- Mixed on limited ammo for the tanks. Maybe give some more rounds because 18 wasn't enough.

- Bipod deploy mechanics are trash. It simply doesn't work well or quickly at all.

- The two maps I tried were not interesting. No vehicles mid map and for infantry play were simply not fun.

- Other odd things, like tank guns clipping through their engine block when aiming backwards, or crawling on your back like a spider while holding your gun perfectly still.

Overall, I found it dull as hell. It is just clunky and not well refined at all. And I'm not talking about technical things. They'd have to redo entire portions of the game to make it decent.

I may end up getting it like I did with BF1 when its $25 or so down the road and only play it a bit. I'm not interested at paying full price or playing it anytime soon.

I'm looking forward to World War 3.

How is everyone's performance? I'm running a 1080 gtx and i7 3930k at 4.8 ghz, 2560x1400, and I'm a surprised how much my pc is struggling on ultra. I'm averaging only 70-80fps, and dipping into the 60s. On bf1 I average about 110fps. I'm hoping this is a just an optimization or driver issue, I really didn't want to have to upgrade to a 2080.

AMD 2950x with a Titan X (Pascal), running 60-100 fps on Ultra @ 1440p. Averaging somewhere in the 80s-90s. I attribute this though to AMD not being as good as a gaming CPU as Intel though of why I'm only about 10 fps more with a better graphics card.

1440p, oc'd 6700k and 1080.

Probably about 80 average on Ultra, 120 average on low. I seem to still be GPU bound even on low. Hopefully drivers have some growing room.

My 6700k is cutting it pretty close too sometimes, 80-90% CPU isn't unusual.

More observations:

- Vehicle external view is off. Planes are too zoomed out. Tanks often have the camera pushed too close to the 3D model.

- Guns are really canted. Still have no idea why. See first and last screen shot. Bugs the hell out of me.

- Conquest maps (so far) are definitely infantry focused.

- Building destruction is a little more detailed. Sort of cool I suppose...

- The bleeding out mechanic is fucking annoying. Give us a 2-3 second cool down, but let us press space if we don't want to be revived. Holding down the key is damn annoying.

Performance wise I get around 50-70, all ultra settings, 2560x1440. I get stutters like BF1 has which DICE never seemed to have solved. Hopefully they smooth out the game, but I am not holding my breathe. Graphics look slightly better than BF4 but nothing ground breaking.

Specs: GTX 1070 SC with an OC, Ryzen 2700X, 16GB RAM, SSD, Win 10.

game def has a hardcore feel to it with the fast ttk and hard to use sights, the guns have alot of recoil but are strong. the sights kinda jump in the way of where your shooting a little too much. my friend and I basically worked on holding and capping a and b on rotterdam all night. building sand bags is actually helpful. take your time with aiming and you'll be rewarded. I maintained a 2:1 kdr most of the night. I can see this game taking alot of heat cause its very different from previous bf games and the people who played hardcore mode servers in previous bf games this is probably more for them. theres alot of angles to get shot from on this map, and alot of people, with a fast ttk. a combination of those 3 things makes for a unpleasant experience sometimes on this map.

for performance, specs in sig. at 1440p I'm getting avg of 60 on ultra. 90 on medium. this is with motion blur at 0% and the 5 settings below it off. also if you use the preset graphic settings vsync gets enabled and the 5 settings under motion blur too. so you have to use custom. anyone try dx12? I have not. probably gonna stick to medium settings just cause its easier to aim at higher refresh rates since i have a 144hz.

No, I have customized my settings. Pretty much everything on ultra, motion blur off and dx11.

your performance seems right. I'm getting 60 on ultra with a 1070. your getting 75 with a 1080. in bf1, benchmarks show the 1080 gets 20 more than the 1070. but I feel you, I'd like to get the 90 or so on ultra like I do in bf1.

Just tried out the beta on the off chance it's not complete shit... but it is. Plays just like BF1, but now with an even worse UI (how is this even possible EA?!) and more blatant microtransaction action. Want a skin for your weapon? You'll need to get a skin for the barrel, the sight, the receiver, the rear grip, the stock, and the magazine... Oh and it's wonderful how they kept the fucking red-dot sights from "ww1" in the game. If you can't make iron sights fun, how about you don't claim it's set in WWII? I doubt I'll bother playing the beta again, certainly not going to pay money for it.

yeah its a bummer, really dont want to dish out the money for a 2080. but i just checked my cpu usage, at a constant 100% while playing.

It plays like the Call of Duty of Battlefields. Somewhat fast paced, boots on ground action. The weapon control, recoil characteristics are also very CoD like.

It feels like how I want CoD to be. Higher player counts with bigger maps. What I've also found is that your chances on getting in a squad with people that actually want to play the objectives is pretty much zero. Random people running around doing random things. That frustrates me. I did finally get in a squad with some good players. We all friended each other and partied up. Went 3 straight rounds as top squad. Figure if you can't party up with people you're pretty much on your own.

Yeah... Now that I played for about 3 hours. I'm no longer thinking this. I did enjoy it a bit, different but quickly came very repetitive.

Game isn't terrible, it's bad and the issues are pretty much what everyone else said, but the limited ammo is the fucking worst, tiny maps, no real tank play (I didn't get to play in the damn Tiger yet. :( ) air plane controls are sluggish, everyone is doing their own thing (which I can get for a new game) But the spawn and die right out of a plane got me really annoyed on Grand Operations.

Man this is disappointing, I was looking forward to a new Battlefield Game, I basically skipped BF4, maybe I should go back and buy the expansions for it. Does BF3/BF4 have a strong community still? is BF1 worth it?

Ironically, the beta feels like its in a worse state than the alpha.

Dice really cut the balls off tanks in this game, they changed the turret rotation speed so it's incredibly easy for infantry to walk up and dance around your tank slapping tnt on it while you try and shoot them with a slow moving turret (main gun or coax gun really makes no difference). There's a third person speed which is faster (though generally not fast enough to keep up with infantry), first person is so slow its a joke.

Ya not so sure about the vehicle play in this game. Seems more infantry/COD'esque. That is what I loved about BF3, vehicles were more of an integral part of the game.

Turning up sensitivity makes no difference.

i dunno all the games i played my team was working together pushing capture points as a group but that's probably why we won every single game by 500+ tickets, lol. the game definitely feels better than BF1 to play but still not good enough to get me to pay full price. i'm also fine with the vulnerability of the tanks since you're suppose to be using it in conjunction with your team.. your team should be supporting you and you shouldn't just be a 1 man army mowing over the enemy.

Def gonna wait to purchase this game. Was disappointed with BF1 and really disappointed (so far) with BFV. I tried running in DX12...kept hitching in DX12. Switched to DX11 and it ran much better but the graphics were no where near as "crips" as DX12. Not gonna run Crossfire until some proper drivers are released down the road. I am also hoping that we get some proper BF1942 maps in the game since the game is focused on WWII...such as Wake Island, El Alamein, Market Garden and Kursk. I also don't like the how the ammo works now.

Holy crap this keeps getting worse and worse. First EA goes SJW with the female character. People start complaining. Our friend Suderland says "we are all uneducated, and if you don't like the game don't buy it." Then their presales tank. Then they push back the release date.

Now its a complete shit designed and poor performing game.

I hope EA goes out of business because of this! wishfull thinking.

There are way too many other great games, from companies that actually care about their customers.

that guy is still living in the old days but I somewhat agree with him. he talks about el alamein but has to understand that even back then those big maps weren't the favorite. there were always more people playing the smaller maps. thats why dice put these maps in the beta. the desert map in the bfv trailer is suppose to be really big and there may be a couple other maps like it and more after release.

dice is working on adding a glow effect to players to make them a little easier to see in dark areas, the effect will adjust throughout parts of the map.

I actually think ea was telling the truth about why it got delayed. this game wasn't ready to be released in oct. they need to tweak the weapons, vehicles and fix the bugs. and being able to drag downed team mates isn't even in this beta. I'd still buy it in its current state, but they have stuff to work on. thinking back when I was playing the bf1 beta. it was also buggy, the weapons were pretty terrible and still are. way better now in bfv. and that game still managed to be the second most selling game in the battlefield franchise in first week sales. also of those first week sales, 4% were for the pc version. so if you wonder why dice copies some of the cod feel. its cause thats what console players want. why would they cater to 4%.
