Battlefield V Live Reveal @ 3PMCDT

Everyone is up in arms about historical inaccuracies......They are trying to show what you can do with the game.
A lot of new features can be seen in the trailer that none of you are even considering.
One thing is the British tank pulling a German AA......you can now hook up and tow anything regardless of what it is. So They showed that someone grabbed the AA and hooked it to a British tank.
Its going to be inaccurate because people were being shown as playing the game as the design intended.

I do agree with all of you on the fact that you really had no F-ing clue what was going on because it literally was all over the place.....I will withhold my judgments after I see more gameplay footage and some proper reviews when people actually play test it outside of only seeing the first trailer release.

All I can say is I'm interested.

Edit: If anyone disagrees with how the trailer is setup read this post by DPI and re-watch the trailer for all of the features.

Agreed. Was good to see it wasn't just me missing some meds or something, the commentary for the trailer has all been the same, it's hyperactive, unfocused, and bouncing around like a 7 year old.

After rewatching it at a slower pace, there's actually numerous set pieces that the camera warps around. That's why the battlelines and surrounding soldiers seem to shift so much. What makes this jarring for the viewer is that they didn't use any transition signal, for example they tried to make it so that the transition was seamless where a soldier bends down to grab an MG42 and raises back up into a completely different area of the battle - in movies, this transition works if the scenery is significantly different, but in this, the scenary is so fast paced and similar the viewer doesn't catch the fact you just warped to an alternative set piece.

Compared to past trailers, this is poorly done.

As much as I find it a bit annoying in a WWII game from a campaign perspective- I'm fine with this in multiplayer.

After reading that huge list, it seems interesting. But my issue with a lot of the changes is that I'm not sure how well they'll work in the fast-paced nature of a current BF title. Maybe back in BF42, but not sure about now. Unless they're slowing gameplay.

As for the "no premium" - no company would willingly give up a successful revenue stream unless something more lucrative was going to replace it.

The message is in the signal on this. I think we're going to see a heavy dose of microtransactions. A lot of these changes revolve around customization of the character, some analyst probably felt that they could get more money by not charging for DLC (which prevents fragmenting the community) and allowing for paid hats and coats. More players = more opportunities to make a sell.

I think that'll mean that post launch DLC will be smaller in scale (similar to the free patch content we used to get), maybe a map or two and be just enough to get players back in. Because there's no cost associated, players won't feel gypped if these revitalization packs have less content.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if larger "expansion packs" make a comeback, like a Battlefield V.5 that includes alternative scenarios/locales, but branded as standalone ("technically not DLC") game titles (with new SP "war stories").

TLdr;

I'd expect a heavy dose of microtransactions for things that DICE feels won't affect gameplay. Clothing, hats, patches, badges, facepaint, gun decoration, and alternative models for weapons (e.g. if all knifes perform the same, the model doesn't matter besides visual and a player may pay for a different look).

I'm thinking and hoping that the new mechanics will slow down the pacing of Battlefield and create more spaces where players are doing things other than speedily zipping around looking for the next red circle to fire at. So much traditional Battlefield depth is missing in Bf1, reducing it mostly mindless run-and-gunning as if everybody is on amphetamines. That's so unsatisfying for me. And it's such a lesser experience than older Battlefields.

Historically, Battlefield has been about all the different dimensions of experience in the one map and naturally-emerging unique encounters. But Bf1 is largely just one flat-lining experience.
 
What a fail with the political correctness to include female combatants. Only russians used them.

OTOH if a concussion grenade strips them of clothes I might actually play the game :D

The sequence we seen might well be part of an sp mission that we're seeing a snippet of out of context, if this is in the final game then its reasonable to assume that there will be a bit of an explanation as to whats going on which hopefully makes it make a bit more sense. The multiplayer we've yet to see so hopefully its not too "out there"

The sad thing is a lot of the drama about all of this is purely down to the fact there's a female character model in the game. Don't recall this much crying when MOH:AA had a french resistance character you could use in mp.

Wrong, French resistance also had women armed and fighting. Pretty sure some of the Nordic countries also used them.

my grandfather was on a destroyer in the pacific theater. my great uncle was boots on the fucking ground in europe. the actual events of WWII were fantastic enough to be fiction.

I'm aware of the handful of resistance fighters in France. The female resistance fighters were a drop in a bucket and were not considered army. It's not a coincidence that war movies are male dominated, women just didn't take active combat duty with the exclusion of russians.

Women were used extensively in wartime duties such as air surveillance, rationing the troops etc but not for combat.

This is just an ongoing trend of political correctness, placing black men in KKK or in periods where they would have been lynched for appearing - or putting strong female characters in times where women had their place between the fist and the stove.

It's all a big brainwashing campaign.

I wouldn't care unless this was a direct contiuum of distorting the gender and racial roles in the history. The media is desperately trying to white wash the past and brainwash the current generation. Why it's doing it? Beats me. But it's a sign of the degradation of our society.

They may not have been infantry but they definitely were in the shit when it came down to it. "Front lines" is something that was more or less made up. Even on a "Base" you are still subjected to attacks, they still could be shot and bombed.
I'm not defending them (EA/DICE) by any means but to say there were no women used in combat WWII is a bit misleading. They just weren't part of the offensive combat, or considered as combat roles in general.
The nursing core was definitively there and saw combat.

Yup, its an area of the war where it gets skipped over. Similar situation to ww1 where most people thought it was nothing but trench warfare.

Anyone who wants to paint Battlefield 1942 as the pinnacle of realizim in sims need only look at the half-assed aircraft engine.

You could take off and land those little fighters in about 20 feet of runway. The engine was surprisingly forgiving of collisions that would make a real aircraft explode, so you could pop from one flag to the next staying airborne.

And if you did it right, you could fit an entire squad on the wings of your bomber in-flight. Because fuck physics.

It was arcade-controls to appeal to a wider audience. Same fucking reason why they put a bad-ass lady in this trailer, along with an impossibly-timed exploding building and getaway car.

Great info. I can't stress these points enough.

I was completely disappointed with the trailer for various reasons. The woman soldier was a bit odd but didn't bug me as much as it did others and wasn't a complete deal breaker. My best guess is that there is some sort of alternate history thrown in there like they have done with the Phantom Program in BF4/BF1 and Bad Company (Operation Aurora Bad Company 2 single player campaign).

It really wasn't until I watched LevelCap and JackFrag's breakdown on the info they had did things really start to sound amazing. LevelCap especially showed disappointment with the trailer, going so far as to point out how even BF1's trailer was spectacular despite how you felt about the game itself. I'm hoping this game is the opposite situation as BF1... mediocre trailer, amazing game.

I'm watching that now. It sounds great. It sounds like DICE have realized how meaningless the Bf1 experience is due to over-simplification and casualization, and are moving in a direction of adding intellectual interactions to the game. I'm very excited to see more of BfV.

It sounds pretty interesting, the problem is the trailer though its an initial trailer was pretty lacking. People have zeroed in on the female character and virtually dismissed anything else in it. But the info coming out is peaking my interest to say the least, just hope they put out more footage showing a large scale battle soon,

I thought it became quite clear as soon as I watched Jackfrag's vid. For this iteration they have taken a lot of feedback from the players (more from the veteran crowd) and it's obvious that in this version they really want to focus on good gameplay by making mechanics more complex which will appeal especially to returning players as the longevity and skill ceiling will become significantly higher and so the game will be appealing for longer time to players. I'm no big BF / modern warfare fan but I like 99% of the changes pretty much and some of them are like YESSS!!! Feels like they wanted to make the game appealing to people outside previous BF players too. It also focusing on better support squad play so there should be easier to make it more competitive based, there will be so many various strategies you can opt now with the enhanced support / building mechanic. Also couldn't help but think "CSGO" when I read that recoil spray pattern part haha. :p Seems there's a clear push towards trying to make it more competitive based too.

All in all I really was amazed by all these gameplay changes, I'm not sure if I could have made a better list for myself if I could decide. Really good choices.

The only big bad decision they made was to call it a WW2 game as it doesn't seem to have much in common with it other than the weapon loadout and WW2 was always a nice working setting as far as weaponry goes but they could still have avoided call it WW2 setting though to be able to pass some of these complains. Oh and that badly directed reveal trailer, that one should have went into the trashbin. Even if the reveal trailer is completely trash I'm more excited for a BF game than I've ever been before when simply reading about gameplay changes.

If they took feedback from BF veterans, then where is RCON/PROCON server management? I can't imagine none of that discussion happened. The BF1 server situation killed entire battlefield communities and clans. My clan alone went from 5 custom BF4 servers with hundreds of active members to around 100 active members and 2 BF1 servers... and that was nearly 6 months after BF1 launch when they finally offered them.

My god, we had auto admin tools, 3rd party cheat tools (because Fairfight still blows in comparison to competition), custom map rotations (one server was entirely CQB and no vehicles), dozens of reserve slots by donation, and near infinite ban-lists for toxic players and cheaters. BF1 came out... BAM! None of that. It took them months to offer rentable servers, and several months after that to get any sort of admin ban/kick ability and even then the admin could only be the player that rented it. If you had a large clan, your ONE ADMIN would be extremely overworked or likely didn't do much at all. Ban lists for BF1 servers to add toxic players or cheaters not caught by FairFight was a paltry 100 players max, so names had to be rotated out after so long.

Now, I can understand having too much 3rd party stuff may cause server conflicts, but RCON/ProCon setups worked on all previous Battlefield games with few issues. If they could just give back even a handful of the features that ProCON provided, Battlefield communities might recover from the fiasco of BF1.

I'm going to stop you right here. More options doesn't equal complexity. More options can make it more casual or easier. Like running and sliding around like Mario after running over a banana peel in Mario Kart who happens to be able to single handily spray with an MG like Rambo. Really takes the draw backs out of using a heavy cumbersome weapon if you can dance around with it. No consequences for rushing in with the bigger, heavier weapon. You can dash around and slide around. Of course to prevent it from being too over powered it they'll probably make it shoot rubber bullets like the MGs in BF1.

The squad support system worked fine in the last few games. It gave you some advantages and made it easier to group up with your friends, which is what the main focal point should be. That is all squads need to do. If you're a lone player who wants to play for an hour you should be able to easily squad up (or not) and have a good time. Pushing more crap on you just makes it too tedious.

My thoughts as well. The shitty pre-determined spray pattern needed to die in the 90s. It is based on rote memorization rather that actual real time skill. Randomized (within parameters for each weapon) is the way to go. Counter it real time. The reason it isn't popular with competitive games is because its harder.

We'll see how it turns out, but with over the top customization, a need to keep milking gamers for cash, and a design of following trends I believe you'll end up right.

R6S is adding zombies. Yes, fucking zombies. One to two years into BF5 I honestly expect them to add zombies or aliens. It would suck if you bought a war game and ended up being forced to play with zombies or aliens.

I'm not just pissed because its Battlefield, but because perhaps the last AAA MP game is being turned into casual uninspired trash. The industry trend is far worse than one happens in any single game.
 
May not end up being how people are assuming from the trailer. Some youtubers at the press-only event stating the trailer doesn't really represent the game.

If what JackFrags is stating about the game being more "slower paced", toward "hardcore tactical shooter" and like "Battlefield games of old" then I will play the shit out of this. Very promising. CaptNumbNutz Delicieuxz

This has to be one of the worst handled "reveals" ever. If hype-o-meter went to 0 after first watching the trailer but then reading about the game details afterwards via 3rd party social media accounts the hype-o-meter skyrocketed again then clearly the reveal didn't work as planned. Oh well, at least E3 is around the corner.

EA definitely owes JackFrags some money. ;)

It's just a game. I think the problem is basing it off of history. Just don't base it on an actual war and move on. I dont care if someone wants to play as a badger. Go ahead.

Actually, can you imagine playing as a honey badger?

Anyway, it's all about the game play to me. I would also love a return to private matches and competitive play? As long as I am making wishes I also want a pony.
