BF firmly jumped in 2018 casual game territory, alongside CoD/R6S.

Yay, another game where you get to play as "you". I don't want to see women running around with missing body parts, tramp stamps, makeup, mohawks, skull face tattoos, neon guns and other crap. I want to play as a damn soldier. Once again, gamers are our own worst enemy. We buy crap and then they make said crap for everyone.

But if you want to make a game like that, MAKE UP A DAMN WAR. Don't tread on WWII and alter it to fit a vision, create a new setting.

It's not about sexism or anything like that, I think it was COD that had a mission where you infiltrated an German occupied French building as a realistic if not historically accurate female spy, THAT'S FINE. That shit actually happened.

This trailer though, other than being a completely impossible to follow clusterf**k, it looks to be a completely insulting "revision" of what WWII actually was...

The biggest WTF moment for in the entire thing wasn't the British cockney accented amputee woman handling a thompson smg and a M1903 Springfield sniper rifle (which in of itself is all sorts of WTF), it was the scene after the player busts through the second floor window like a Bruce Willis action star.

Did anyone else notice this? The British charge in Churchill tanks plowing down a house. One of the squad mates pulls up in a stolen German kettenkrad painted in US Army green with a giant white 5 point star painted on it [no the Allies didn't have this half-track motorcycle contraption). They charge alongside the Churchill tanks, pan around 360 degrees and where the Churchill tanks were a second ago now sat a German Tiger tank going the same direction the players were AND it got shot from the front.

In reading this post it sounds more like you got that trolled - frantic, nervous, heavy flow. Just a little too much angst to be having over a trailer.
 
Apparently Jackfrags (longtime BF youtuber) has had time with the game and spilled a bunch of details. Even if you think DICE's bombastic-as-always cinematic sucked or had a female or whatever, the mechanics sound brilliant:

• No Premium or Season Pass, no Loot Boxes, no Pay to Win, all maps and modes will be free
• Four classes are back: assault, medic, scout, support
• Launch locations are France, Africa, Rotterdam and North African desert
• Co-op is back with Combined Arms mode
• Single player War Stories returns
• Defensive fortifications are things like sand bags, trenches, tank stoppers. Offensive fortifications are things like machine guns, field cannons. Only supports can build offensively.
• Predetermined areas to build, such as at flags, can rebuild destroyed buildings.
• Attrition system – health bar is now segmented, meaning health regen doesn't go back to 100 anymore (ie if your health is 7% it'll regen back to 20% and stop).
• Physical interactions – every action in the game requires interacting for things like medkits, ammo, ledge grabbing (ie healing requires walking over to a health pack, character animation to pick it up, then start healing)
• No more HUD/map spotting. Spotting will be based on movement/changes around you
• Attrition system – much less ammo on spawn, out of ammo after a few fights, but more ways to resupply ammo in the battlefield from packs, crates, or grabbing small amounts of ammo off of bodies (all requires physical interactions)
• Revive system has a full animation, no more revive trains, takes time to complete
• Ragdolls are server side, can now drag a downed player's body elsewhere
• Any class can do a squad revive, takes longer than a medic revive, does not give full health points
• Can call for help when down, as seen in trailer
• Ragdolls (player bodies) effect the environment, push down grass etc.
• Gunplay completely changed
• No more visual recoil
• Each gun has a unique recoil pattern that can be learned and mastered
• Bipods easier to use and setup
• Bullet penetration through thin wood, sheet metal, walls
• Movement changes: can now dive forward, backward, left and right similar to R6 Siege's prone system
• Diving has a cooldown to prevent dolphin diving and spamming
• Crouch sprinting has been added

• Can catch, throw back or shoot grenades
• Less grenades because less ammo
• Towables: can tow items with vehicles, like a previously stationary AA or field cannon; teammate can use an AA gun while you tow it with a tank; can drive a truck towing an ammo crate to resupply teammates on front line
• Destruction explodes inward or outward depending on where destruction happens; ie grenade thrown into a building explodes things outward; an explosion outside a building explodes inward.
• Tank driving into a building slowly destroys a building, walls slowly crack/fall, not instant destruction.

Looked great. Saturday Morning Cartoon WW2 - I love it. Fits right in with the current wave of popular aesthetics.

Also really like the sound of all the gameplay elements changing.

I mean the trailer is so far out of reality that people are assuming we are being trolled and played with but this is EA and I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Classic EA fking it all up again and dropping the ball big time. And they wonder why their games always always have issues. What another horrible nightmare and letdown. Whoever they have at the top, we have somehow got to get rid of.

But the no seasons pass as an example is bullshit. If anyone thinks we're going to get 20 or so maps, weapons and some vehicles like we did with BF4 for free you're wrong. They'll make people buy a crapload of cosmetic DLC to pay for it. I'd be okay with it if we could disable all the cartoon customization, but they're not going to let that happen. They've deliberately said they want other players to see each others cosmetics. Obviously, this is to drive sales. Anyone who thinks EA is going to dish out lots of maps and theaters out of the kindness of their hearts is a fool.

BF4's premium was actually a good deal. Especially because it could easily be found for $40 even close to release and maps were eventually made free to everyone else. The people who whined about the fairly good value of it, you only have yourselves to blame.

A few years back people had common sense and bitched about this. But in 2018 we welcome it (and the shitty microtransactions) with open arms.

We would probably have that if their gameplay trailer guy didn't quit after BF1 in 2016. He did all of them from 1942 to BF1. The BF 5 trailer was like a Michael Bay movie on mushrooms sped up 5x.

it sounds like shit to you because you probably never played the old games that didn't have regeneration or wallhack spotting.

I'm glad premium is gone and you should be too if you had any common sense! Battlefield have had huge issues with premium/DLC's splitting up the community for so many years and most people who play with friends that perhaps don't play the game enough to fork out more money for premium have had issues playing on the same server when there suddenly was a map change. Besides I still find $60 for the basic game and $40 for premium a lot of money.
It makes no sense to break up the players and finally Dice decided to listen to the community.

If EA/Dice can get their money in on cosmetics instead of premium/DLC's I'm more than fine with that as long as it's somewhat in the realm of reality and the ww2 spirit.

On paper the new changes sounds great for battlefield, but the trailer showed something way too chaotic and I think most people got disappointed with how they decided to showcase it.

Yawn...............after the bullshit DICE has pulled over the years. The suppression update with BF3 is when it all started. The fiasco shit of BF4 with its incapable of knowing the opposition's facing netcode and everything else shitty in that game is when I had enough as a long time player of the BF series. I will never buy a DICE engine or game-unless-2142 is remade just because of nostalgia; even if it is a shit redo. Now this SJW women shit. Might as well make them wearing nun, or desk warrior outfits. At least they can make them French spies or some shit, but the Gaelic face painted warrior women? I am about to say fuck the gaming industry because they do too much in such an asinine manner! All of them need to take a little study in some Tao and Zen philosophies so you do not get the fucking too shaky cam, sun in the eyes, great levolution features!!!!!!11!!!!1111111!!111; and don't get me started on limited vehicle ammo too......

Personally, as a side note, to me what would be better than a battle royale is a defend against the comp (horde) mode. Almost like rush mode, but like a massive scale invasion battle in which placed emphasis on the team play mechanic because most players never drop ammo, health, nor repair! It would train players to play the game a bit more as intended.

They can do it better now and with more players at one time. 1942 was epic for the amount of stuff in it to use. Now they are just run and gun infantry BS mostly with a jeep and tank thrown in.

A trailer where a prosthetic limb provides enough agility to use: a Thomson submachine gun, a Springfield rifle, and beat someone with a cricket bat.
A trailer where a man runs around with a katana on his back.
A trailer where a man jumps from a two-story house because (allied) tanks are driving through the building.
A trailer where random shit just falls out of the sky.

By itself that doesn't sound half bad, but then I am told that this is supposed to be set in WW2.

The footage in the trailer looks to be set in a sp mission, And lets face facts, battlefield has never been about realism, otherwise people would be raising eyebrows at the ability to jump out of a plane, rpg a tailing aircraft and jumping back into your original plane all in mid air.

The mp event in a few weeks will be much more telling. The trailer did seem a bit random i'll give you that but much more to come instead of basing everything off an initial trailer

The reveal trailer is neither singleplayer or multiplayer footage. It's simply a scripted / animated presentation of chaos depicting a bunch of Battlefieldisms in an over-the-top playful manner.

It looks like we won't see gameplay until the June 9th presentation.

The mg footage appeared to be actual gameplay, much like the first bf1 trailer had a moment of gameplay in it.
 
What we need is the realism of a game that plants you in a foxhole for 60 hours while you pray you're not next.

Most soldiers in WWII didn't even fire a weapon at any enemies.

War is not fun, video games are fun, the two are fundamentally incompatible if realism is important.

The truth is that people don't want historical accuracy, they want a game that will fellate them and only them. Nobody else should enjoy my thing, it's for my junk, not yours.

Ooh, a trench-foot simulator would be sweet too!

It alludes me why people don't understand this; when we are talking about realism we are not talking about how one necessarily destroys shit and plays the game. If they are selling this as a WW2 game set in that era, with those locations, weapons, and everything then it would be a reasonable expectation for there to be more focus on the history otherwise create any other game with any other conflict you want but don't market a WW2 game and then for example put a British woman on the front with a prosthetic limb doing what she's doing...

I think all of that is scripted, as well.

The player runs over a ledge and is behind a few opponents. He fires 10 shots straight ahead at nobody in particular, and the row of opponents just fall down altogether. Then a teammate picks up a grenade and throws it in the air, and the player seemingly shoots it in the air, making it explode just as a plane flies through it. Everything in this video is timed perfectly to make this specific presentation.

And all of the character animations appear to be mocaped and animated specifically for the video, and don't resemble what I think we'll see in the actual game.

I think this is like a CGI trailer for the next Battlefield, just done in the game engine because its graphics look good enough. Similar to the 'meet the' series for Team Fortress 2. Just an amalgamation of Battlefieldisms to hype that a new Battlefield is coming.
