Battlefield 5 – Official Gamescom Trailer – Devastation of Rotterdam

I know we've seen Battlefield 5 trailers before and this one is similar to previous trailers, however, this one appears to hint at a Battle Royale mode at the end of the video. I know this is something people have been waiting for and this trailer might be the holy grail. Take a look.

Looks nice but I'm having fun playing BF4 instead. No interest in historical shooters. I barely played BF1942 till the Desert Combat mod was released.

It looks a lot like Battlefield 1. Which I like, but I am not sure I am ready to buy again.
 
I have played the closed alpha. All I can say is that doesn't resemble the closed alpha (much).
 
Looks awesome.

So PUBG has the blue aids, Fortnite has the storm and BF5 will have the fire circle of death closing in.

Lol, I’m gonna love it. Love these battle Royale games too much.

Amen man. Why can't these mainstream shooters stick to modern day tech. They need to just start releasing 60 dollar BF4 updates every year that are worth it. Nobody wants to shoot rifles with iron sites off the back of a f*&$^!# camel.
 
Looks cool. Too bad EA has their tramp stamp on it. That's an automatic no buy.

Hilarious considering when they actually were sticking to modern warfare - BC2 -> BF3 -> BF4, there was a lot of bitching that modern warfare was played out and "why can't we go back to WW2 on the modern engine".

I personally would've preferred that they just keep iterating on BF4 or done a 2143, but at the time - circa 2014 - it definitely felt like a minority opinion with people wanting something new.

Ya I don't think anyone is going to confuse BF 5 with black British infantry and steampunk robo arm women as a "historical shooter".

U.S. and Britain both had Black/African infantry, airmen, and sailors, in the Carribbean/Africa/Italy efforts.
 
Why does EA try to pawn off their trailers for BF5 as 'actual gameplay' when they aren't? They did the same with BF1 too. Their BF4 trailers showed actual gameplay we're more interesting, even five years after its release.

 
Battle Royale not interested. Big maps of fun with no contraints then hell yeah! It will probably have both.

Many people were fatigued from the "modern shooter" .. you can only do so many maps and weapon systems before it gets boring. BF4 was simply what BF3 was meant to be with more development time as a continuation.

I personally prefer WW2 because it removes a lot of the modern-weapon assists and makes it a tad more skill based.

I think he probably means that it looks like staged gameplay that they called real gameplay because it used the in-game graphics, which I would agree with. BF3 and BF4 had awesome promos that looked to be ripped straight from gameplay, whereas this one had a song that was way too loud and a cinematic approach the visual shots.

I wasn't sure what he was actually implying. That's why I asked. Because if its not "real gameplay" then what else would it be, pre-rendered? It sounds like what you guys object to is the fact its not some boring FRAPS recording off a single PC, with one guy spawning in and playing for 30 seconds..? That wouldn't make the most compelling of trailers.

The reality is, it's real gameplay. They record a ton of playtest rounds with an internal tool similar to BF2 Battlerecorder or Halo Theatermode, and then step back and forth through the recorded rounds with a floating cam looking for interesting sequences and events. And then they string the best ones together into a 5-10 minute rough draft, and then chisel down further until a final version, and yes, with music synced to the shots and cuts for dramatic effect. This is fairly standard practice, so I'm failing to see how its misleading or deceptive. It's an advertisement of what's possible.

This game might look prettier but BF1942 Desert Combat was the pinnacle!!!!

Uh, very tiny roles and they were NOT front line Northern Europe infantry fighters.

Who fought for Britain during World War II?

  • Of those who fought 629,000 were Canadians

your attempt to diminish their valor is pretty dubious. Who cares if there were proportionally less. There were enough black soldiers in Britian, to cause actual rioting because white soldiers were so racially charged by the presence and amount of them. that British citizens fought off white soldiers from harming the African soldiers.

Billy Strachan (a black man) of the 99 Bomber squadron RAF, was part of a crew which flew 30 missions and he is one of the only members to survive them all. Including bombing land and sea targets in Germany, as well as Burma, Thailand, malaysia and other spots.

American 320th barrage ballon battalion (all black/african) were on the beaches of Omaha and Utah (German occupied France), during D-Day, running balloon craft to block and deter German aircraft from strafing and bombing. They served 144 days in France. I have never seen a pop culture piece on D-Day mention them, let alone depict what they did. Which sucks.

The Tuskegee airmen had groups which flew missions in Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Despite very little instruction from pilots with combat exoerience, Their efforts resulted in the first surrender of enemy forces in WWII, due to air attack. Later, they escorted raids into Czechoslovakia, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Germany. Their performance was exceptional and they were nicknamed "red tails", due to the distinctive markings on their planes.

92nd infantry division nicknamed "buffalo soldiers" by native americans and thusly wore a buffalo insignia, fought in the Italian campaign. After taking Rome. 7 divisions were re-assigned for the invasion of France. 92nd was one of three divisions which replaced those seven in Italy, and would go on to fight key battles at appennine mountains and po valley. Helping to take Florence and the remaining lands in Italy. The Italian campaign resulted in the most lives lost and amount of wounds, for the west.

those are some standouts which are easy to find. I know there are many more stories to account. And if I were rigid on historic accuracy, it would leave me with no problem seeing or playing as a person of color in a WWII battlefield game.

Simply stating factual numbers has nothing to do with being "dubious" or "diminishing their valor". SJW alert. Who cares about proportion? Proportion is actually one of the largest metrics humans use to process data. The world doesn't operate with what YOU personally think is important. In a war with tens of millions of soldiers fighting, blacks in front line combat was EXCEEDINGLY rare. Yet it is all over BF games. Sorry to burst your bubble. And as a WWII buff, you don't have to state to me the few instances out of thousands of operations where black units fought. I've actually BEEN to the Tuskegee Airman national site in Alabama.

Now you go to Vietnam, there damn better be some black soldiers represented on the American side as they were dis-proportionally drafted, especially at the beginning.

This is just what every one says when EA announces a game. They, EA, have a track record of hyping games up to insane levels before they release but end up rushing them out the door and ending up with a hot mess.

Why is this a big deal? Who really cares if more black soldiers are shown than in actuality in a VIDEO GAME that is a work of fiction designed to appeal to many different people with different heritages. It's for sales, not to get the "anti-SJW" crowd fired up.

Game looks ok. Maybe it will have a working battle royal 6 months after release unlike PUBG. That's a rip on both organizations ;) Unless it's a lot like Bad Company 2 gameplay, the best of battlefield and I can't figure out why they can't get destructible environments quite the same since, it's just rinse and repeat at this point with different guns.
 
Not sure if anyone has seen this or not but I think my next FPS shooter will be World War 3 and not BFV

it actually wasn't exceedingly rare. Im gonna paraphrase some stuff.

There were an estimated 700,000 black men serving in WWII, for the U.S. alone. In all types of units. Some units were even mixed/integrated. As an example, black soldiers were integral in the battle of the bulge. The artillery unit which suffered the most casualties of all artillery units at Bastogne, was an all black unit. An all black medical/ambulance unit, was among the first to work in Bastogne.

There are many other examples in less famous parts of the bulge and struggle for the Netherlands. And that's the main point. Black men were pretty well spread across these campaigns.

Sibret (black 771st were key here), Wiltz, bonerue, recogne. the 761st fought 1 week at Tillet and succeeded in taking it. Captain John Long of the 761st (a black tank battalion), was known As "Black Patton", by the white soldiers he supported. 761st served 183 days. Ending after they met the Russians in Austria. Ten 761st tanks were part of the honor guard, when German Forces surrendered.

after the battle of the Bulge, losses in individual units (all units) were so high, that a plan was written up to re-concentrate men who had been displaced and to use black soldiers to fill out units with low numbers. Over 4,000 black men volunteered for these assignments. A number of them accepting lower rank and positions, so that they could fight on the front after the battle of the bulge. And these re-assigned men fought in these forward positions, for the remainder of the war.


if we go off the gamescom trailer: Maybe there weren't a bunch of black men fighting in Rotterdam, specifically. Maybe most especially when the Germans first took it.

But, does that matter in a multiplayer match, where, against history, the Germans could lose? In a War which otherwise had plenty of black/African personnel with important effect?

Hmm I'll keep my eye on it. Although they used entirely too much CGI in that clip. The Frostbite engine is really hard to beat though, they've got that nailed down.

The conversation was about blacks fighting for the British. And 125k blacks served in the US military overseas during WWII, out of 16.1 Million Americans.

This does NOT discredit their valor, only stating factual numbers.
