Battlefield 5 Developers Wish They'd Included Women in Battlefield 1, Too

I'm all for inclusion and diversity. Seriously, I think it is very important. For a contemporary game I think it would be a must to offer people regardless of gender or race to play a character who looks like them.

The historical context makes this difficult though. If I am playing a WWII title, or ancivil war titles, or any other historical title I want the environment and characters to match as closely as possible to what it was like at the time.

We can't present history like we would like it to have been from our contemporary sensibilities. That's how we got those ridiculous German versions of WWII games without any swasticad or characters resembling Hitler.

All that said, I was never going to buy any Call of Modern Battlefield game anyway. I did thoroughly enjoy the Red Orchestra series though. Less so the sequels in the Pacific and Vietnam. There's just something amazingly grim and serious about WWII in Europe, especially on the Eastern front, that always sucks me in.

If Tripwire could expand on that, I'd buy it immediately. I'm thinking a Finnish Winter War expansion. Finns vs Russians with the occasional German support units and Swedish volunteers.

Now THAT would be a game.

As a percentage...not really. Also these rare cases have been implemented in many WWII games already so there is no under-representation of "womyn" in games. The issue is your blue-haired mafia types like yourself that are shoving your warped social agenda down everyone's throats in every aspect of popular culture. Keep pushing and you will be relegated back to the fringe table in the lunch room with the cutters and other freaks that no one talks too. Seriously...please keep it up. The backlash is going to be beyond satisfying.

Warped social agenda? I just think it is fine that they are putting female avatars in Battlefield V, and the one story trailer they showed was from the French resistance where there would be women, but people are acting like it is the end of times. Are thousands of female combatants less than millions of male ones? Obviously, but that is still not zero, and we are talking about a video game where anyone can jump in a plane and then fly it in to a tank while jumping out with a magic parachute then shooting a bunch of people. This is not a realistic battle simulator.

DICE lost me as a fan when called me uneducated and sexist for questioning why there was a disabled sniper carrying around a cricket bat and frontline soldier carrying a katana, when I am a extreme Battlefield fanboi who has been playing every release for hundreds of hours since day one of BF 1942.

Between EA/DICE and Disney/Lucasfilm, I'm not sure which pair has tried harder to alienate and destroy their core fanbase.

I'm not. I'd like at least one quality AAA game in 2018. Not everything needs to be bottom of the barrel garbage. Besides, you're not getting $50 worth of content for free. You'll get neon uniforms, Halloween hats and other crap to entice those with no sense to spend their money. The big problem with this is what you pay for up front isn't what you will have 6-12 months from now.

Day one may represent a WWII shooter, what I paid for. One year later it will be a clusterfuck of clowns, Santa hats, aliens, zombies, people running around in red white & blue underwear and whatnot. If they'd be willing to issue a full MSRP refund if they ruin the game and honor it for three years (development length of the game) I'd consider your point. Otherwise, I'd gladly pay $30-50 for more weapons, vehicles and maps that are actually worth playing.

I feel like my decision buying the BF1 premium pass was a loss. Barely played any of the maps, the vehicles that came with them are meh at best, and the weapons are largely locked behind bullshit challenges I don't care to accomplish.

For me, gameplay, mechanics, fun are the most important considerations when looking at buying multiplayer games. I'm not too fussed about what I'm shooting looks like, much more concerned about whether the map I'm on is balanced or not. I enjoy winning, whether it's getting kills or supporting my team. Don't get me wrong visuals are important, but if I ever get turned off by what they add 2 years in, I'll still come out ahead than paying $60 for disappointing content.

I don't care all that much over a female avatar. There are female gamers, it is what it is.

If the developers are attempting to redress history, attempting to turn a fiction into reality, that's just nonsensical.

I would -prefer- a history based game be based in history. If that's not what they're going for, well, fine. To reiterate, women did not serve on the front lines apart from absurd rarity or extremely isolated incidents. This is not about political correctness, this is about historic accuracy. I get enough Social Justice warriors on facebook, I don't need them in my games.

People who boycott or "lose" a company for something that they think is "inaccurate" is completely insane to me. I'm talking about movies and video games. The relentless comments on how something isn't up to par, or is "complete garbage" makes me feel like we don't care about the piece of entertainment, but the the rationalization of their own self doubt. Hypocrisy and whinny nerds not ever feeling satisfied, is what is wrong with the world today. Pre-ordered BF5. Can't wait to play it. PS rhexis I loved The Last Jedi.

I have no horse in this race since Battlefields interest me as much as watching paint dry, but I think the issue was never strictly about women in WW2. Women did fight in WW2, but they were all in very specialised roles (snipers, spies etc...). Yes BF is very much Hollywood fantasy but they still had some modicum of reality, correct me if I am wrong. Seeing women on front lines is out of place but not unheard of. But then on top of that we have stupid shit like bionic arms and samurai swords! Whats next, Nazi UFOs? Is this Iron Sky the game? (actually that could be awesome!)

And then the developers had balls to jump on the high horse and blame it all on gender issues and white male misogyny like TLJ defenders did and then draw the "dont like it dont buy it". Well said *Sarcastic golf clap*. Dude, don't shit where you eat! Well, the public has spoken and now you reap what you sow.

Plenty of women fought in WWII. Mostly on the Russian front, and as French freedom fighters, but there are more than enough stories to make a single player episode out of.

That's something that confuses me. They want to include women in the game, why not focus on areas where they historically were? I would love a big budget WW2 game focused on the Russian front or a single-player mode where you're fighting in the French resistance. Those would both make for some excellent settings and campaigns. Yet they're all obsessed with showing D-day for the 50 billionth time.

Dont fucking care if you put women in your goddam games... just make good games and all is well. BF1 is not a good game. If BF5.. with women.. is a reskin of BF1 it won't suck because you've put a few clitsters in it.. it will suck because it's a BF1 reskin. Now shut the hell up with your virtue signaling bullshit and focus on your goddam job... make better games!

CEO Patrick Soderlund stated "you have two choices: either accept it, or don't buy the game"
I guess most chose the 2nd choice.

I miss the times when games were just games and have zero problems with women in video games, but please stop shoving this down everyone's throat. Im also skipping this release and preordered BLOPS 4. I think Sweden has a beta male problem so maybe that's why this was so poorly handled.

Technically is should be "regardless of sex or race". Until very recently human beings have a sex and inanimate objects have a gender. Gender is assigning a sex to an inanimate object for grammatical purposes i.e. a ship is a "she". Radical feminists are trying to alter our language in order to advance their radical theory. 'If we let them...

So they're worried about the pre-sale numbers, but instead of assuring us the gameplay will improve... they double down on the stupid #WESUPPORTWOMENTOO bullshit which is pretty clearly just a way for them to get more coverage of an otherwise lackluster release that's poorly timed.

It's the new viral marketing trend, although I think it backfired horribly.

I said this before in a similar thread, I play games to escape from day to day life and have fun. It is a sad day in gaming that liberal knee jerk feel good political correctness has now infiltrated even this. If I want to deal with that garbage I would just turn on CNN or MSNBC and listen to the liberal pundits bitch and whine.

Let me just say this...the gaming industry is veering into new territory. We have developers telling the customers what they want because the customer "doesn't know what they want." This was literally said about WoW classic but has since been repeated with Mass Effect Andromeda, PUBG (until the "Fix PUBG" campaign recently), Battlefront II ("pink vader"), Battlefield V (we are "uneducated" and "on the wrong side of history" so if we don't like it "don't buy it"), and many more.

YongYea recently released a video (below) that everybody should watch starting at my time stamp. Seriously, watch it, read it, listen to it. They literally, LITERALLY (not in the new "figuratively" sense), think that players don't know what they want and they want to use telemetrics to tell YOU what you want. I'm not kidding. Does this sound familiar? Maybe a bit like some liberal ideas you've heard? Yeah. They know better than you, it's for your own good.

This shit has completely gone off the rails. This isn't about feminism or misogyny (although Angry Joe had no problem hating on "Trumpsters") but about control, plain and simple.

Yeah, the recent Battlefield 5 demo from the RTX 2080 launch the other day had a black guy with a beret on and headphones over his ears. Go look. Huge WW2 fan here and I've never seen anything like that before.

The thought of going up against black women in multi-player is very off-putting to me.

Like many others have said here on these forums and elsewhere, I want historical accuracy.

I don't want to go up against dinosaurs, robots, aliens, fictional combatants that were never in WW2 .... just really tired and wore down with all the weird shit.

Also, on the PC, Battlefield 1 had a massive massive amount of cheating in it that they never addressed.

Battlefield 5 will have the same cheating anyways so that game is fukked one way or another.

And that vocal minority was not even buying the game either way. Everyone needs to stop caving into these retards. Sorry I don't mean to offen special needs people since they have more common sense then these SJW fucks.

This statement sums it up for me. Moreover, BFV is very bland and generic. It is not a WW2 game, it is more like a generic apocalypse FPS with older weapons. The character skins have absolutely nothing to do with WW2 and the weapons are very forgettable, as well as the environment. Even the audio design is missing something, which is usually DICE's strongest element. It is the first Battlefield game since the beginning that I don't plan to buy. I can't imagine what DICE will do after BFV since going down this SJW rabbit hole. I suppose more of the same characters, but with modern weapons.

I actually went back recently and played MOHAA and to be honest it is probably one of the best games I played in a while. No BS and a straight up shooter and holds true to history. Also looked pretty good for it age using 8x AA and 8x AS.

Battlefield has gone to the birds and you turn into one after reaching level 100 during a battle royale.
People have been waiting 8 years for another Modern Battlefield and they give us the Hardline Battlefrontage 2 and Battlefield V historically inaccurate. SJW
Battlefront 2 is a decent game but the loot boxes really made headlines.

To add onto my previous post without messy editing and to keep it simple: let's look at EA's viewpoint. They have access to lots of information we don't and truly believe that the player/customer is not getting as much "value" (word sourced from the YongYea video I linked) as they could be. They know that their audience will react negatively if they hear about telemetrics and all of that, but it's because the audience is "uneducated" about the technology. The problem with that is, we have to assume their goals are benign (and I think we can all agree, they are not) and on top of that they won't share that information...likely behind the shield of "intellectual property" (trade secrets). So we have to take their word for it...and this is why companies turn to PR instead, and why they try to hide their methods.

Then apply that philosophy to the "women in BFV" scenario and we see echoes of this line of thought. We are "uneducated" because we don't realize women are going to be universal in games moving forward. We're on the "wrong side of history" for the same reason. The reason we have EA people saying these things is because they BELIEVE them, and it extends from the technology. That is - they see they know more than the dumb customers about metrics, so obviously they know more socially/ideologically as well (game is an art form, after all). It's endemic.

To turn this around let's look at Cyberpunk 2077's "joke" tweet recently. They didn't say "don't like it, don't buy it" (although they should have). They are also a company/developer built on a history of good business practices. Yet they're getting shit on for being straightforward with people because there are some who get offended. This just shows how backwards the industry is becoming due to the insertion of people who think they know better than you...and it's fueled by the money the industry is taking in, largely around MTX in EA's case, and that should be worrisome for any gamer more than a woman on a WW2 battlefield.

i can't believe they don't have midgets in this game. i mean if you're a midget shouldn't you be able to play as a midget in the game??? i mean just think how many more midgets would buy the game if they were included too!! hint hint #EA

Yeah battlefield 1 sucked and it's the first battlefield I actually regret purchasing in full. Them saying they "wish they'd included women" in that game too, is like saying they wish they could have microwaved the turd an extra 5 minutes before serving it to us.

Funny enough I don't actually give a shit what gender you are playing, what I do give a shit about is them shoving it down our throats and making like it's some kind of earth changing decision. Make it so the player can choose male or female and move the fuck on to designing good levels/gunplay/etc.

The way they are trying to spin this load of shit if there's a BF6, we will be reading about how the next iteration makes it so you can play a non binary identifies as a gender neutral toaster type game.

I'm just a dude who likes to play video games, and as a dude, what the hell is wrong with wanting my character to be a dude blowing stuff up on screen? I play video games to get away from the endless and pointless political bullshit flying around today, why drag that stuff into the video game world?
