I was thinking the same thing, although I appreciate the sentiment expressed. Takes a bigger man to not be a douche in the first place.

Simply put...DICE let consoles hold back battlefield again due to limitations of the tick rate and bandwidth use put in place by MS and Sony. DICE copy pasted the netcode over to PC that doesn't have the same limitations that MS and Sony put in place for the consoles. The blame doesn't lay squarely on MS and Sony though, other games do just fine within these limitations. Its just that the way DICE has it programmed now, the game could benefit from opening the bandwidth pipes a little bit. In other words, DICE is not only trying to do too much with what little they are given but they are doing so in a very inefficient manner.

Really good explanation of WTF is going wrong with BF4's netcode. 8:55 in gets really scathing towards DICE, and also explains why we can never hope to have anything better than what BF3 was with BF4. The whole game is built around these numbers and the tick rates. In other words, its broken from the ground up.
Honestly, BF4 is so fucking terrible right now that sadly most of the community would be happy with BF3 performance.
The industry cannot wait for the day that pc's and consoles can join the same servers. Microsoft has been sliding the industry in that direction since the Xbox was envisioned. It kills the board room guys that they have to spend money and time to develop better assets for the pc versions, when that time and resources can be spent on spitting out an entirely new title.

Have not checked on this thread in a week or two. I see nothing has changed, some people still seem to think this game is broken to the point it's unplayable.
Yet here I sit next to 8 or so friends who enjoy themselves 99% of the time we play this game and we do this almost every night.
Go play Titanfall if BF4 is so awful.
Yes, it has its issues and yes BF3's netcode might be better but it's still fun for me so quit complaining and ruining others fun (Please).
To wildace: I'm pretty sure I have (or had) you on my BF4 friends list -- my current gamer tag on there is "SoapyBonar" (yeah I know)
Battle(non)sense has the videos that explain much of what is wrong with the game.
Here's a video showing the real effects of the "Netcode" issues.
Here's an update to that video.
Here's a video discussing an FOV "wallhack."
Here's a video showing how client side object physics can ruin the game.
If you watch those, you'll understand where people are coming from. Also, someone's comments on the internet shouldn't disable your ability to have fun.
This will never happen. It was tried in the Dreamcast era, where Dreamcast players could play against PC players in Quake 3 Arena. It was abysmal.

Despite the numerous issues over the past 5 months, I have still been able to enjoy myself. I could deal with some of the wonkiness. I could deal with the shots not registering sometimes. I could deal with the crashes. I could deal with all of it...until now.
The rubberbanding going on with the Naval Strike DLC makes the game unplayable. Up until now, I've been very fortunate until recently. I can't just quit a server and join a new one. It is happening on every server that is equipping the DLC at all. The map switches, then everything is fine for 20 minutes, then it is back in full force.
I will be flying an attack jet, then all of a sudden I'm teleported 50 feet behind me, along with the target I was shooting at. I will peel off my attack run with plenty of altitude, then be teleported backwards straight into the ground and into a tree that wasn't there when I made the strafing run to begin with. Every 2 seconds, literally 2 steps forward, 1 step back. It happens in all vehicles, on foot, doesn't matter the situation. You don't even get a fighting chance against what is shooting you because you can literally just die like you were one shotted by something when reality is you were a sitting duck running in place on the enemy's screen.
I can no longer enjoy the game if I can't even play it. I'm going to have to stop playing on servers with the DLC.
I am very tempted to switch to Titanfall at this point.
Wrong. Its the opposite, Microsoft has been vehemently against x-platform multiplayer and continue to be, as recently as last week I read about a developer stating MS didn't want it when it was offered to them for a title the developer wanted to allow PC/XBONE multiplayer on the same servers.

I would love it if PC players could play with console gamers. But too many console gamers were be so upset about it.
Agreed. I have the same issues on full Naval Strike servers. I haven't played the expansion since the first night as a result (also, fuck boats).
Zavod 311 is still fun though. Rogue Transmission and Dawnbreaker are decent too.

Just a fun little BF4 video i threw together. The kill at the end was what gave me the idea to do it. It reminded me of the proton torpedo scene.

Sad to say that my team has completely abondoned this game for ESO and Titanfall. If the next BF game isn't done right, this series will have gone the way of the cod series.
If an fps game is not capable of being used for competition, I believe it will die on the vine. Let this be a lesson to developers. Not that it will be heeded but yeah. Sad panda.......

This is quite untrue. Professional competitive gaming is a very small chunk of the install base. BF3 did just fine without being used in competition.
I think you are missing his [Spaceman's] point entirely too. Also, you need to consider the fact that DICE wanted BF4 to be used competitively. Yet, with the inconsistency of the netcode there is no true "game" to play in the competitive manner. What I mean is, are you going to go to a casino to gamble by throwing dice if there are no standards? You expect particular rules, and odds, a paradigm of gambling.
BF4 is the biggest failure of the gaming industry on so many levels. But I think the majority will agree that you cannot expect a game to be used for competitive play when your shots do not register a hit. Especially, to an opponent player that is standing still, or laying down prone. I mean honestly, how the fuck does one expect to have any fun even in this game with this? Because I find the inconsistency of game play too frustrating myself. What is the point in shooting if it cannot register? What is the point of knifing the opponent from take down position (behind) only to have them counter, as if they were facing you all along.
The game is a piece of shit. It is time that people start to awaken, and stop having Phantom Menace syndrome.

biggest help is that I don't take it too seriously.

90% of my large (37 player) BF3 clan abandoned BF4 within two weeks of the game's release, but I hung around hoping it would get better - and I don't mean crashing and hitreg and latency and "omg DYCE fix teh netcodez" bandwagon whining, because I never had a problem with those issues.
Problem is the game just isn't fun, TTK is too low - on the level of an arcade game - it's just missing that special "something" that has slowly been eroding since they began catering to console squeakers, CoD crossovers and casuals that don't understand combined arms, "hate vehicles" and think everything should 1v1 everything else no matter what. The new Target Audience whined that chess was too hard/complex/boring/OP and demanded checkers ezmode instead. DICE indulged them.
Uninstalled the day Naval Strike released after playing the maps once or twice. Should've done it sooner. The community is also one of the worst and most obnoxious I've experienced, especially the trolls that roam Battlelog.
I've tried to rationalize that its just a generational shift that's happened, and I'm the odd man out now - like how annoying an 18 and over club can be when you're in your 30's - its not the annoying, screaming Biebers running around that are out of place. Its me.
You are missing my point.
If the game is not at a level of quality for comp gaming, it isn't a good fps imo.
