Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

The problem is, everytime you see someone with a pretty decent (3.0+) KDR, 9/10 times it's just some dickbag with an M249 laying prone the entire match.
Or a dude with a mortar.

It's really risky to do this because flying in a straight line is a good way to attract every kind of AA. I'm not sure why you think this is a bad thing.

If I am in a tank, how am I suppose to shoot it down? Suicide, change to engineer and launch MANPADS? What if I want to uhh, drive a tank.. and not be running around launching stupid shoulder fired missiles that just get decoyed anyway. What a waste of time.

Just drive the tank then? Don't stay still, keep moving, and stay in areas that's hard for aircraft to hit. As AceCR42 pointed out, when a plane is trying to attack a ground target, they're gonna be flying a in straight line which leaves them wide open to AA and even coaxial guns. So just like you in a tank, a pilot in a jet is also subject to extreme risks depending on how they drive/fly. At least in my experiences as a tanker, I may not kill the aircraft out right but I'd damage it heavily to the point where it can be killed by an actual AA or force him to stay away.

I think the '' is what made your post seem arrogant. Came off that way to me as well so it wasn't just AceCR42.

Anyway, sleep now, but I will try to join your server later.

Yes, I didn't realize that was the "rolleyes" smiley. I thought it was more like "poor me" smiley. So, improper use of the smiley on my part...

So you'd rather the tanks be invincible then? Sounds good for the guy in the tank - not so much for everybody else.

Or a dude with a mortar.

While mortar'ers are annoying I'm not getting why people are complaining about them so bad (not saying you are, just in general). They are insanly easy to counter mortar beacause its plain as day where they are, there is literally a red motar symbol on your map to tell you where to drop the motar to kill them. All you have to do is setup, drop a motar, and move right after firing.

lol, the easiest way to stop retarded mortaring is to counter mortar. Sounds like fun, not! as Borat would say.

Ditto. Good job EA/DICE.

It literally just took me an hour to get in. 5 minutes in and it crashes to desktop. Today's the first day I've ever had a problem with this game. Now I'm getting a new error:

No contact with EA backend. Please try again later.

EDIT

I see the threw a note up on the server browser:

NOTICE Be advised: We are seeing connectivity issues to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 back-end systems. DICE and EA are working on resolving the problem.

Figured it out. They added server queuing and it frakked up their backend authentication system. Should be cleared up in a day or so.

I think people will enjoy the game more when CODMW2.1 comes out, since a lot of the "oooh shiny" crowd will probably leave.

You can shoot choppers and planes down with a tank shell. I got a jet and a chopper last night. Two choppers I think. The jet was probably wtf? It was flying low though.

Maps are too big for their own good. Even with 64 players, the large maps just feels very empty. Most of the time you'll be soloing or at least with 2-3 others.

BC2 had better population intensity.

You have got to be kidding...or trolling. The maps are FAR too small for 64 players, its such a grind fest.

I agree.

The best solution is to keep moving. I don't sit around in area for too long.
Assist in capping the flag and I'm on to the next one. I've driven a tank for almost the full length of the match, because I'm never where they think I am.

Oh no, I'm the "dick" that uses the mortar :). So definitely no complaints about the mortar from me :D. A lot of the times I don't even get kills with the mortar, just a bunch of assists. And mortars don't work too well either when the enemy is constantly moving/advancing/atttacking or indoors or when your team doesn't spot the enemies. With that said, I've easily gotten 3.0 KDR from just using mortars alone in some occasions.

But yeah, you're right: It is not that hard to kill a mortar guy when you have a mortar of your own. Just orient yourself in the general direction of the enemy mortar, deploy, fire, pack, and run. A lot of times, the mortar guy will be too focused on a particular section of the map to notice the counter-mortar. With that said, not entirely easy either since there are some mortar guys who'll monitor the entire map and hold their fire just for the enemy mortar to show up. So the second they see that mortar, they'll move quick to bring it down. But still not that hard to kill a mortar guy since a lot of them, myself included, don't exactly pay attention to their surroundings or map that well. I've been knifed, strafed by helis and aircraft, counter-mortared, and gunned down while as a mortar dude far behind the lines multiple times. Hell I've knifed and gunned down a few mortar dudes myself. I even rolled up in a tank behind mortars and knocked out them out. So yeah, there are plenty of ways to kill a mortar.

I agree.

Yeah smart plan. Ever even avoided going into a 1 on 1 tank battle too while you're advancing?

Mortars police each other I feel. However when the other team does not deploy a mortar, 15-0 or 20-1 rounds aren't uncommon when I use the mortar.

Even then, if you're mortaring and you see an enemy mortar pop up... just tap E and chances are you won't get killed. You might lose your mortar though. Hold R real quick and you can probably save it.

So you are being "sustained" and "entertained" by people denying that it was a console port? "Sustained" is synonymous with being fed, much like how people "feed" trolls with their responses. Trolls also derive entertainment value from their posts, hence why they post in the first place.

You have, by definition, trolled everyone here and are a hypocrite. Keep that in mind before you start accusing others of the same thing. ;)

BTW, thank you for the info in the original post, all I'm saying is you could have worded it a little better, and left out your statement about people's complaints "sustaining" you.;)

I was being facetious. :p Its just par for the course for many people in this thread to be in denial over such a simple fact that has been admitted by the developers. Its like supporters of Bill Clinton denying that he was a womanizer even after he went on National TV and admitted it.

Classic.

Wow, they did just implement server queue?

I swear it wasn't there yesterday.

I saw it last night, but only certain servers had it. Guess it depends on if the server had a recent update or not?

I concur.

Is anyone able to hear people behind you when they come to knife you?I thought the sound was better on this .I could clearly hear them in BF2 and BC2 and react on time.

They need to make footsteps louder in the mix. I could hear would-be stabbers creeping up from behind much better in BF2 and BFBC2 as well.

Yay for constant disconnects, haven't been able to have a solid game the entire night.

On the upside I got the second highest score on my team just by getting three massively long head snipes on Kharg island from the carrier.

Anyone getting message that their software version is incorrect? How do you update it?

Anyone else able to play for hours and unlock items, come back the next day with old stats and have to unlock the same items? Then the 3rd day have to unlock the same items again?

Is there a trick to not getting d/c'd from the servers? Also in CO-OP I haven't been able to enter a match yet. It loads, finds me a partner, and d/c's before the level loads.

Nothing wrong with my ISP.

Thanks!

yea, make war sound but not footsteps seems like silly.
but dice cant play their own game any good so no wonder why the game lack features that should be there or better made from a players perspective.

I can hear my own footsteps but not when someone runs on concrete?

If memory serves me correctly, weren't you campaigning for weeks before this game came out for people to cancel their preorders? If you stood by that then the obvious question then becomes: Did you ever buy it and/or have you played it or spent any time with it yourself?

If the answer is yes, then I'm still waiting to see you to back up your complaints with specific examples instead of these drive by troll posts that aren't contributing anything worthwhile.

If the answer is no, then unfortunately that starts reflecting on you rather poorly in any number of ways.

We had a guy smoke mortaring on Seine Crossing and it was pretty dam effective for the advancement pushes across the canal bridge. Then again that required co-ordination between the squads, something that most servers don't have (yet?).

More people are finally understanding how the soflam works, had an engy run around with me last night that was making mincemeat of the tanks via it.

Please for the love of god there has to be a fix soon for the blinding TAC lights, lasers ATLEAST on outdoor maps. This is unreasonable and ruins the fun factor when someone runs up to you in broad daylight and blinds you.

HOW do you get smoke rounds?

This was probably me.

I have not experienced any of these issues cagey, could it have something to do with your firewall/router possibly?

It's a pretty effective anti-personnel weapon also.

I was on some server last night and everyone was crying "oh, the tanks are so overpowered", blah blah blah - it's a tank for god's sake, of course it is overpowering for a guy on foot. It's built like a tank.

The only issue I have with tanks, and vehicles in general, is that one some maps there seems to be to many for the size of the map, now add this to the limited RPG ammo and it's not a good combo.

NERF MOBILE AA :p

Noooo! Pre-order canceled!

No link, I just logged on and tried to enter my favorite server, got a "You are 2nd in que" message instead of "CANNOT JOIN SERVER IS FULL" Angry message.

Awesome!

I'm just getting into the game, but I am absolutely loving it so far. I'm at the part in Tehran where we're trying to get into the bank. The game its little quirks here and there, but so far it's one of my favorite games visually, audio wise and gameplay wise. Totally loving it! I haven't checked out multiplayer yet, but I will once I'm done with the single player campaign.

I would agree about the visuals, although I question why they put some much time and effort into them when it seems their main goal is keep people blind as much as possible.

If I am an assult trooper, how am I suppose to destroy a tank? Change to engineer and launch RPGs? What if I want to uhh, run as assualt.. and not be running around launching stupid shoulder fired missiles at a tank which have such low dps that an engineer can repair faster then I can damage the tank. What a waste of time

Seriously, I haven't played a ton yet and yet I've managed to shoot down a couple jets and helos that messed with my tank.

So you'd rather the tanks be invincible then? Sounds good for the guy in the tank - not so much for everybody else.

Yep, people in tanks/IFVs want them to be invincible just as pilots want their aircraft to be invincible so I guess everyone else should just march into the open and line up to be mowed down by those two groups.

Please for the love of god there has to be a fix soon for the blinding TAC lights, lasers ATLEAST on outdoor maps. This is unreasonable and ruins the fun factor when someone runs up to you in broad daylight and blinds you.

nothing worse than a teammate absentmindedly blinding you with their tac light. i don't equip tac lights or lasers because i don't want to annoy the shit out of my teammates. it's not worth whatever 'tactical advantage' i might get by using them.

Gone back to BC2, playing it after BF3 makes me realise that BF3 isn't as good as one may think. Having so much more fun in BC2 speaks volumes. Only issue is there aren't many servers that are populated and the ones that are are hard to get into.

The hit registration particularly in Vietnam is so much better it's alarming
